Capcom’s Ono Wants A Onimusha Resurrection, Feels Time Is Right

Despite garnering a sizable following during the PS2 era, Capcom’s feudal-age horror franchise Onimusha has been dormant for quite some time. While the company remains tight-lipped regarding its plans for the franchise, Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono recently expressed interest in a Onimusha revival in an interview with IGN.

“The time feels right to me. It feels like it’s the time to resurrect that series,” said Ono. He added, “But I wouldn’t want to do the things we’ve done before. I think it might be time to progress beyond the standard single-player adventure. There should be ways to expand upon what we’ve done while involving the community more. Perhaps implement some sort of multiplayer into a game like that.”

Although it shares similar gameplay mechanics to other contenders in the action-horror genre, the Onimusha franchise always felt like a breath of fresh air. Perhaps it was the emphasis on close-quarter combat, slicing and dicing foes with swords. At any rate, we’d like to see Capcom give it another shot.
