DICE To Drop Support for Windows XP In Battlefield 3

If you still haven’t found a reason to upgrade from Microsoft’s nine-and-a-half year old OS, perhaps that’ll change by next year. DICE rendering architect Johan Andersson confirms via a Twitter tweet that Battlefield 3 is being developed with DX11 in mind and will not support Windows XP or DX9 as a fallback.

That means at least a DX10-capable graphics card is required. Also, a 64-bit OS comes “recommended.”

Frostbite 2 is primarily developed for DX11. XP & DX9 is _not_ supported, 64-bit OS is recommended. Lots of time to upgrade if you havent!

Given that Battlefield 3 isn’t due out until next year, there’s still ample time to make the switch, latecomers.

Excellent. Hopefully TF2 will be the next game to make this plunge.

I don't think TF2 needs to "take this plunge" unless Valve want to seriously update the Source Engine to be based on DX10\11 with no fallback, port TF2 over to the new engine and then cut off their XP user-base....

Going by Valve's track record, I see them as being one of the last to make such a move, honestly. I'd love to see them release a game that takes advantage of bleeding edge tech but chances of it happening are slim to none.
