Davee Downgrades PSPgo from 6.31 to 6.20

by Justin B. on December 30, 2010 @ 8:51 pm

We interrupt your holiday celebrations to give you something else to celebrate about. Davee, famous for his work on ChickHEN, just tweeted that he has successfully downgraded his PSPgo from firmware 6.31 to 6.20. When asked the share more details about the new development Davee replied saying “Just wait a while ;)”.

Glad to see the PSP is still getting some love from Davee; just wish the same could be said about those poor bodies

Hellcat says:

That is really, REEEAAALLY nice, and I hope it'll work for 6.35 as well as THAT might actually get me HB on my PSPgo, and I wouldn't need to carry around two PSPs just to test my compiled stuff. nice. Very nice :)

Dan says:

So proud <3

Bizarre says:

Well played Davee.

Muratcan says:

Also possible to downgrade from 6.20 to any lower firmware now with the HEN-B revision. People are reporting they've installed 5.50 GEN. Even if those are lies it should be possible to get to 5.03 and use that HEN (enabling PSX ISOs and the PSPGo somehow going from the worst PSP to have to the best ;P).

Cloudy says:

Uh... No. Not possible to downgrade that far. The older firmware won't have support for the PSP Go.

Have you ever tried the PSP Go? If you have, you'd see it's not the worst PSP. I prefer it to the others.

Muratcan says:

I just said it was the best now it has been hacked ;)

flofrucht says:

Well done Davee.

KezraPlanes says:

I'm sorry but if you believe that the PSPgo is only good if it's hacked then you are an idiot, sir. I don't mean offense, I'm just stating a fact.

On the topic though, awesome job Davee. I look forward to reaping the profit xD

eldiablov says:

This is all pure rumour. I don't believe for one second that this third rate 'developer' could come out with something of this calibre. He has lied before and doubtless he'll lie again.

MenaceInc says:

Agreed. I never heard of the guy releasing anything before so best just file this under rumour for now.

Robby says:

Ehhh that is an opinion. I think the PSPgo sucks in comparison to previous PSPs.

KezraPlanes says:

We can't all have the same opinion can we? I love the sleek small design, it's what the PSP should have been in the first place...

slicer4ever says:

QFT

imo, the go feels alot better in my hands than any of the other psp model's

Dan says:

Wasn't he behind the Datel scams? Pretty sure that was him.

FrozenIpaq says:

Ok guys I can only take so much sarcasm, that's enough. Those who are not familiar with Davee may think you're serious...

impulse says:

Hellcat I hope this does allow you to downgrade your go. : ) Then more easy compilations at work etc. One psp to carry, finally, maybe....

Regards,

npt (to any mod, I signed this acct up under my old nick a while ago, if you could change, it'd be much appreciated.)

RoBz says:

go on dave i always knew you had it in you

but eh...what bodies? why was that included in the article???

FrozenIpaq says:

When I asked him what he was hiding from us that is what he replied with

Thirstycow says:

Nice, its been a loooong time since there was a downgrade in the PSP scene

Hellcat says:

Too lazy to quote everyone, so just my thoughts while reading the repies:

- The PSPgo is totally my fav. model of the PSP, no matter if hacked or not I totally prefer it over any 1k/2k/3k; It's the sum of all of the small details that make it total win (for me, at least)

- Whoever doubts Davee really having d/g'ed a GO from 6.31 to 6.20 obviously has no clue what he/she/it is talking about! I *TOTALLY* believe him, no "rumor state" at all - granted he didn't release a lot of the things he did (but believe, he *DID* do them! I can assure you!) but he gave slight hints to actually release this one! So, I BEG YOU stop bashing him before he decides NOT to.

- impulse / npt \o_ hey there :D yeah, being able to run my own compilings on my GO.... total win, f*ck, I'd *PAY* for this xDDD

El Xando says:

I'll only buy a new PSP revision if they put in a FUCKING RIGHT ANALOG STICK :@

KezraPlanes says:

Why? The only PSP game that needs a second analog stick is Monster Hunter... Stop whining about that, it's unnecessary and irritating xD

El Xando says:

Because the PSP has needed a right analog stick since it's creation... It is quite a requested feature.

KezraPlanes says:

And it was uneeded the whole time, no game well done needed it, nor will they ever... A portable console isn't a damn living room console... Live with it.

El Xando says:

Fair enough, I haven't even played my PSP in ages, don't really like any of the games :P

KezraPlanes says:

/me is baffled and facepalms

RoBz says:

why would someone create a game that needs it if it's not there?

KezraPlanes says:

Monster Hunter needed a damn second analog for decent camera control, but CAPCOM didn't seem to care xD

eldiablov says:

WOOOOOSH

Anyway, FPS games are too clunky for my liking. This will change when a second analogue stick comes along.

KezraPlanes says:

Keep FPS's out of handhelds... It's bad enough on home consoles as is...

RoBz says:

you really need to stop posting your opinions as fact

KezraPlanes says:

I'm not saying it's a fact... I'm just saying that handhelds are the only platforms where I can play and enjoy a good game without having as a pre-requisite shooting everything up... Even home console RPGs do it now, look at Mass Effect.

However should you disagree with me feel free to voice your opinion instead of making empty witty comments.

RoBz says:

you make me sick

KezraPlanes says:

As far as I'm concerned, it is a fact. That might not make it a fact, but at least I have a better reasoning about it than people like the post you quoted. The PSPgo is what the PSP should have been all along, it's not bulky, it's PORTABLE and it has a sleek design. People who just say "eh, it sucks" just because it's not "hackable" are idiots who don't even care about gaming one bit.

Feel free to disagree, feel free to insult me, I don't care anyway.

El Xando says:

I thought the original PSP was fine except for UMDs and the lack of a right analog stick.

KezraPlanes says:

Kinda was. It was too big to be really portable, having owned a 1000 and a 3000 before the Go, I can tell you there is a huge difference because I can carefreely take my Go pretty much anywhere on my clothing without having a huge bulk. The other two never gave me that much freedom and considering I use my PSPgo for music other than gaming, it was really a blessing. In all honesty, whenever I pick up an older model I'm baffled at how huge the thing is and how badly it was designed.

As for the second analog, I said my piece already. I really do believe it's unecessary but I also know that there's a 95% probability that the PSP2 will have it. So good for you I guess xD

El Xando says:

I never realllly had a probably with the size of the PSP-1000 or PSP-2000, but oh well.

Second analog sticks are brilliant, FPS games, racing games, etc...

Eh I probably won't buy it anyway unless it's fairly cheap :P I'm more of a console gamer and I prefer DS games over PSP games, there are no PSP games I can say I really like as I said (GTA games were OK, but on DS there's Mario Kart, Pokemon, Mario, which are always fun games)

KezraPlanes says:

The PSP really has great games, but I believe they're all more around the RPG genre, which you don't seem to really like. The PSP has innovative and fresh games (Patapon, LocoRoco) and really solid games (GoW, Final Fantasy games, Metal Gear) but in the marketing and software department, Sony REALLY dropped the ball. I've stated that unless Sony does something brilliant, I'll go for the 3DS next gen, just because Nintendo has the experience to make my portable console be better and I was really disappointed by Sony and how they acted with the PSP.

I'll have to hold until my 3DS to finally play some DS games that I've wanted to for a while, but all-in-all I take much more enjoyment out of my PSP library.

El Xando says:

I played and finished LocoRoco and got lots of enjoyment out of that, but no replayability.

KezraPlanes says:

Agreed. I felt the same way... That's why I believe that Patapon is a little better but whatever, that's a whole new topic xD

Also, long before the 3DS comes into my hands, I still want to play FFIV, the 3rd Birthday, Agito XIII and a few other upcoming games. Though I really believe they'll be the last.

vilkit says:

Implementing a second analog stick at this stage of the psp's lifecycle is just stupid. NO GAME WOULD NATIVELY SUPPORT IT. It would require every developer to retroactively add support via a patch. (None of them would bother, we're lucky we still get psp games)

Request it as a psp2 feature. Sure. Just plain retarded wishful thinking to request it for any current psp gen.

Thoughts about this article.

PSPGo was damn near the best model of the PSP before this exciting news was announced. Now it is definitively the best psp model. By far. I can officially retire my heavy as a brick psp1000.

I will still buy games for my go, hopefully this will light a fire under the asses of companies who refused to release games on PSN.

Muratcan says:

Not only good if it's hacked, hardware wise it's the best of the four systems (and one software perk in the save state feature, which is also possible via homebrew on 2000s and 3000s I believe). But c'mon, you can't tell me that the Go was better than a custom firmware 1000 (now you can of course ;)).

Also addressing those who are arguing about whether Davee is a fake or not. Was it not him that released the 5.03 HEN that gave 3000 users the light?

KezraPlanes says:

The ONLY reason I wanted my PSPgo hacked in the first place was to be able to play my backups (which are a lot) for the UMD days. Aside from that, changing from a HEN'd 3000 to a non-HEN PSPgo, I still felt the PSPgo was better for gaming (which is what it's all about).

As for the Davee comments, they were being sarcastic xD

MenaceInc says:

He's not a fake, he's a mate of ours and we were just giving him a bit of banter. Was just a joke. If Davee says that he's done it then I totally believe him. Just never let him be a medic in TF2.

El Xando says:

Davee never posts anyway :P He should post topics on eXo when he does things like this xD

cscash241 says:

he update his status to "Downgrader is pretty much done... probably release tomorrow-ish ? idk"

Muratcan says:

Thanks for the clarification guys. I was wondering why the hell long standing members were making such comments xD

Ahh Kezra I was gonna actually use that argument in my reply to you ;)

KezraPlanes says:

Wut argument?

flofrucht says:

Source: http://twitter.com/DaveeFTW

I think he means that sarcastic or :D ?

Why he should release a downgrader ? his 6.10 hen was also not released.

But anyway,good work Davee :)

Your'e not a faker!

greez.flo

KezraPlanes says:

The HEN wasn't released and the reasons were clear. If he does release the downgrader, I think it'll be good but won't chyange the fact the scene is dead.

vilkit says:

If i downgrade, will i still be able to play the games i legitimately purchased on psn? I only want to play with homebrew emulators and the games that were never released on psn (crisis core, kingdom hearts, a few others)

Would it be impossible to authorize a 6.20 firmware pspgo, with my psn account without having to update?

Dan says:

Not until some sort of firmware spoofer is introduced, I don't think so.

KezraPlanes says:

Yes you can, with MediaGo ;) that's how I do it personally.

Muratcan says:

About being able to play UMD only games on the Go now and why that improves the device's worthiness

Even if Davee doesn't release it (oh yh I remember now he was the guy that hacked the Go and didn't release their method due to HEN being turned into a piracy haven!) Math has found the PSP keys (related to the PS3 discoveries). So no need to worry about downgrading anymore 8)

vilkit says:

love the go

Dan says:

I better buy a Go! before the hardware gets patched.

Trigun says:

Well personally the 3000 is about as near perfect as it gets in my experience. I love mine

Dragondedragones says:

Im new member and chekin this ok

FrozenIpaq says:

Forgot to notify everyone but I believe Davee stopped development of the downgrader due to the keys being released (thus no need).

Hellcat says:

There is always a need for d/g'ers - and be it only for the sake of the fun of doing it :D

Josey Wales says:

OK :D
