PSP Custom Firmware 3.71 M33 Released

by Mike Bendel on September 23, 2007 @ 12:38 pm

As they say, legends may sleep but they’ll never die. Dark_AleX, aka M33, has released custom firmware 3.71 M33 for the PSP. Just like previous OE and M33 releases, this edition features all the enhancements users have come to expect from custom firmware, plus all the new features from Sony’s official firmware. It is also compatible with both the PSP Slim and PSP Phat.

3.71M33 Released. It will be our last but one release.
In the near future, it will be released a Slim&&Fat Unbricker, and a 1.50kernel patch

First of all, thanks for all your donations.
It’s time to make the Scene think into what has it turned.
NOW you can look for guilty ones.

And, to finish, greetings to pspx.ru and all the ones that have helped us in this crusade.

As a side note, Dark_AleX has said that this will likely be the last custom firmware release from him. However the team still plans to release an unbricker for PSP Slim units, as well as a 1.50 kernel patch for those running 3.71 M33 on the regular Phat PSP.

canadajames says:

Fudge now some new team has to go in and get annoyed to death I want my ninjas to hunt down the peeps who made them quit.

Roe says:

Does this mean DAX has been working with M33 from the start?

canadajames says:

He was m33 lol thats pretty sweet I guess though

x3sphere says:

He WAS M33, aside from a couple other beta testers. And yes I knew this ever since he "left" :P

donsammy says:

is this FW for old PSP or for PSP Slim?????

x3sphere says:

It's for both.

canadajames says:

Wtf exophase you could've at least told some trusted members..... Well i guess it was for the best you didn't but how did you know? I'm guessing he trusted you eh?

Roe says:

Damn man thats crazy lol. What I don't get is why though?

canadajames says:

Because remember when he left sony was out for him. What better to do then make everyone think your gone and pretend to be russian lol who would do anything about a bunch of russian hackers.

x3sphere says:

He told me :P A few others knew as well... Mathieulh, jas0nuk, etc. Anyway it was for the best.

StoneCut says:

Damn, this means now we're royally screwed since NOONE could replace Dark_AleX for a LOOONG time.

Roe says:

Damn you x3 :P I swore blind on other forums that DAX was really gone. xD

canadajames says:

Tommorow we're gonna get team m4 coming out with new stuff lol. Seriously this time I hope someone will come again to save all us psp users and turn out to be in it forever. no disrespect to Dax but it would be nice to have someone to lean on till psps die.

homn says:

How exactly do you install this update?

Roe says:

Take a look in the readme. Or if you want to wait a little while I'm sure x3 will post a guide

x3sphere says:

Check the readme, or I will put a guide up shortly (10 - 15 minutes)

Roe says:

lol @ that ^^

Alucard says:

I never would have guessed that Dark Alex was Team M33. I mean, if I'm not mistaken, He was working closely with Team Wildcard as well. This is an interesting twist.

Tenshigami says:

Sweet! But I still gotta wait for the 1.50 kernel patch.

Roe says:

Yeah when I think about it. There could be a book made about this. I might write one...

Cheezeball99 says:

*Shakes head* Heh, figures. I can honestly say I'm not too seriously taken aback, but it is still quite the tremor... He did a VERY good job at disguising himself, but there were subtle hints, along with things to throw you off course. Anyway, nice, and DaX, have a great life! (If ya stay gone:p But the hook brings you back)

Junit says:

HAHA DARK ALEX YOU BAD ASS MALLCHUCKA , I believed that some crazy russians were M33 , You sly dog hahah , mad props for fooling the scene , mad props for translating evrything back and forth to make it look like the way it is . that's just real pwnage ... You need a t-shirt that says "I-PWN"

Alucard says:

"It will be our last but one release."

Does this mean that he is now quiting for reals?

Alucard says:

nvm, yeah I just read that this is his last firmware. I guess it's all up to Team Wildcard from now on.

kittyangel says:

who knows....I guess only Dark_AleX knows.

Pippilotta says:

Is there a way to install this new firmware on a Slim with Sony 3.71 FW already installed?

Thanks much!

Junit says:

what if wildcard was D_A lmfao ...

Chilly Willy says:

This is what happens when you sleep in late... :glare:

Works great! Plus, us Slimees get 32MB more memory now! If D_A is really going for good, he's leaving on a real high note. Hat's off.

TimTiger says:

Thats awesome. Way to go DAX!!

x3sphere says:

Not yet, but D_A plans to release an unbricker using the Pandora Battery method for the PSP Slim. This will allow you to install 3.71 M33 on official 3.71 as well as any future firmwares Sony release.

PAinKiLLa says:

Great job guys its working great but.....

Going to need to make a new joysens as it crashes game when loading (any1 using joysens will have to disable this option from the plugins menu or games will not boot up).

If u need joysens I suggest waiting for a new release of joysens b4 updating.

This is not a problem with the 3.71 M33 update its just a minor problem with joysens & its just a case of making a bug fix.

PAinKiLLa says:

Ive just been informed that cwcheat does not work either Im now begining think it could be a bug in the 3.71 M33 firmware. To tell the truth I cant get any plugins to work at all.

shadowthor says:

Great release. About to install, I hope my backup copy of Final Fantasy Crisis Core works :D, or else i have to use the umd :(.

TimTiger says:

Quite a few plugins will need to be updated since $ony changed a few things on the firmware to try and prevent homebrew. just be patient for the developers to fix these plugins.

Clyde18 says:

i've not tried new firmwares before (i'm using 3.40-OEA), is this 3.71 M33 make my PSP stop relying on a UMD to run certain games?

Cheezeball99 says:

Yeah, well, even like 3.52M33 will do that, it has a new ISO loader, Sony's, so you don't have to have a UMD in the drive for about 95% of ISO/CSO games.

Clyde18 says:

Thanks for the tip

Hanzo_f19 says:

I wonder why he did this?

I wonder why he revealed himself?...

many questions that i wish i had the answer

MenaceInc says:

wow....i'm amazed.....to be honest i was still on 3.40 OE cause i felt that it would feel odd not using D_A's work....and now i find out it was his all along... O.o

how old is D_A anyway?...

if i was a scout for any big software/hardware manufactor i'd probally offer this guy a really plush job....lmao.

remember how team m33 said they reversed engineered D_A's code?...wonder if it was just him reverse enginering his own cause he lost the source....that's be crazy...lol

x3sphere says:

D_A is in his early 20s... still a student btw.

Hanzo_f19 says:

really? i thought he was 15

MenaceInc says:

yea i read on the bbc site that he was a student but thought maybe like teen's,not in his twenties...thought the whole fake team thing would of been a bit much for a teenager really....hell,i wouldnt think of it.

kudos to him though :)

RJC4LIFE says:

371-M33 is pretty good so far. Is the reason everything is back in because of the lack of the 150 kernel? Like Location Free and Korean fonts...and in recovery if you change the kernel to 150 then back to 371 it says 352 in the message. I can't skip the Sony logo either..lol.

Great job as usual.

reandaya says:

im wonderin will there be a problem if i update my phat psp from 3.52 m33-4 to 3.71 m33 while having an apple cor theme and cwcheat?

x3sphere says:

@reandaya:

no, that's fine.

zictoli says:

unable to make the pandora battery on the new 3.71 m33 any help?

Acerthief says:

both the program (battery creator, battery installer) needs 1.5 kernel to start.

So for 3.71M33 now you can't create a pandora batter, not until D_A released the 1.5kernel.

You can also use eLoader to run 1.5 kernal on 3.71M33.

x3sphere says:

Not sure if eLoader will run the Pandora Battery creator. It's probably best to wait a few days, the 1.5 kernel patch will be out by then.

Acerthief says:

Yup, that's why I said to wait until the 1.5 kenrel patch is out. :D

RJC4LIFE says:

Won't that mean that Korean fonts and Location Free Player will have to go bye bye for the 150 kernel?

And I can skip the Sony Logo on a normal boot but not after leaving the Recovery Menu.

Is getting the 150 kernel back that important? The only program I'm actually missing is Irshell, also my favorite, but it could be ported right?

And popsloader doesn't work for me at all. I'm holding R at the right point but...nothing.I'm using the universal by the way.

PhreakAccident says:

Being this brilliant at that age, the man has a distinct future ahead for himself

porchemasi says:

omg, i cant use my homebrew :(

Wheres that 1.5 KERNAL PATCH :s

Zante says:

I seem to have bricked my PSP slim using the 3.71 firmware extender (nothing to do with Dark Alex or M33). I got a message stating that my flash was corrupt and the PSP made an attempt to repair it before bricking itself. I can't even access the recovery menu now.

Will the PSP slim unbricker, when it's released, be able to help me? :[

Acerthief says:

Very possible, :D

say isn't the extender a plugin?

RJC4LIFE says:

Yeah, and it happened to me but I was able to go into recovery and disable the plugins and then delete them via usb. It was weird, my UMD drive started going crazy, sliding in then out frantically.

Oh wait, I did have to remove my mem stick before I could access recovery, black screen nothing until I did, then reinserted it while in recovery to disable them. Maybe you could try this? Or is it too late for you?

Zante says:

That's correct. This one was supposedly released specially for 3.71 and I saw it being advertised on pspslimhacks.com

I advise everyone to wait for the PSP slim unbricker before testing it out.

I think it's too late for me. Whatever I do, I can't get beyond that black screen. I've tried it without a memory stick in the PSP just now, still nothing unfortunately. :[

Acerthief says:

take your battery out, memory stick out, and turn on with your AC adaptor in.

jesus2282 says:

If you really want to play 1.50 kernal stuff, then all you have to do is use the extended pandora boot menu, and select "load firmware from memory card". And there you go 1.50 I could play my nes, and sega emu just fine, and when used with the multi ipl loader, you can boot into 3.71m33 normally, or you can boot into extended boot menu by holding L when you put in the battery.

Zante says:

Still nothing unfortunately. Even with the R shoulder button down.

When I turn it on normally, nothing happens. It's just a black screen and it stays on.

When I hold the R button down, the screen flashes once and then the PSP turns itself off.

RJC4LIFE says:

That is odd, because if the mem stick is removed AND the battery is out then there shouldn't be any way that the plugins are loading. And I don't see how they could have damaged your flash since no flashing should have been done by those prx's..

Keep trying? It did take me several tries. If not, then full brick..sorry.

(Still shouldn't have messed his flash up?????)

On a side note, anyone gonna resond to my query about popsloader?

x3sphere says:

Popsloader doesn't work right now as it needs to be updated for 3.71 M33. Sony changed a bunch of things in 3.71 and as a result it has broken nearly all the old plugins

Zante says:

Not your fault. :]

There's more to it. The original problem was that after installing the extender, my PSP slim would not save wallpaper. As wallpaper is not saved to the memory stick this led to all sorts of assumptions regarding Flash1, I used the recovery menu to format it multiple times but the same problem kept arising, the wallpaper never saved. I even used v2 of the special Flash1 formatting tool. I was advised to fiddle with my Flash1 manually (move and exchange files) which then led to it bricking. It's mostly my fault but the original problem started right after I installed the extender. I even disabled the plugins before it bricked.

The PSP came up with an error stating that the Flash was corrupted and that it would make an attempt to fix things, no such luck. That's what bricked it.

I happen to have made a backup of my Flash1 files before the brick, I don't know if it'll be of any use. I thought that if I was able to access the Flash1 again that I could restore the backup I made.

Am I correct in understanding that an unbricker would not help me then?

/shame

I might have to return it.

Zante says:

The newly released PSP slim unbricker has fixed everything. All praise Dark Alex. : ]

RJC4LIFE says:

I'm glad to hear that you have gotten it fixed, cool.

I can wait for popsloader support, thanks for the reply.

bsizzle says:

I also stuck by trusty old 3.40 being skeptical about m33 and not wanting to trust some russian team that popped up from nowhere and reverse engineered d_a's work. o.O

i felt horrible inside when he "left" knowing he was (is) the best out there. and never bothered to upgrade out of respect for his work.

Dark_Alex, you tricky bastard you =P!~ i feel a lot better knowing it's been you all along. I felt the need to create an account so i could post this for some reason lol. Time has come for me to move on to 3.71.

later =), Bsizzle

THKS Bro

Im update to my PSP Slim ur very well!!

s2000_77 says:

im so confused...what exactly does this firmware 3.71 m33 do?? will it allow me to finally fix and downgrade from version 3.11?

Rubbberninja says:

hi i have the latest version of the offical psp release software how do i put your firmware on instead.

x3sphere says:

@s2000_77: has nothing to do with downgrading. 3.71 M33 is a custom firmware that gives you all the features of 3.71 plus homebrew support.

As for downgrading firmware 3.11, yes it can be done. Download the 3.11 downgrade by Noobz here: http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=3453

@Rubbberninja: Firmware 3.71? You'll first need to downgrade to a homebrew-capable firmware. Check out Pandora's Battery: http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=3238

vanillasky says:

hi i just upgraded my psp from 3.52m33 to 3.71m33 .. it seems like it has an issue with the pspcomic reader... everytime i try to open my pspcomic it has this error THE GAME COULD NOT BE STARTED (8002014c).... i tried deleting the program in my game folder and pasted a fresh copic but it had the same result... encountered this?

Acerthief says:

pspcomic needs 1.5kernel, but 3.71M33 doesn't have 1.5kernal yet.

Try it again with eLoader.

x3sphere says:

Normal. I believe PSPComic is written for the 1.50 kernel, which 3.71 M33 is currently lacking.

Have you tried loading it with the new eLoader?

http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=3540

Acerthief says:

lol x3, we've posted almost the same time.

vanillasky says:

how do i do that?

Acerthief says:

dood you've jsut posted this a few minutes ago. dont double post and keep asking. thanks.

vanillasky says:

how do i install the eloader thing? newbie here.. sorry...

Acerthief says:

look at the readme. everythings there.

x3sphere says:

You just launch it like any other homebrew application. It will scan all directories in your GAME folder and list all the applications it can run.

vanillasky says:

ok.. got it to work... thanks guys...

maxix says:

Hello. I from Russia, badly speak on English... I have an official insertion 3.71. How to me to pass on 3.71 M33?

:confused1: :confused1: :confused1:

Acerthief says:

do you have it on a phat psp(older version) or a slim psp?

if you have a phat psp, then you'll need to use a pandora battery to downgrade.

if you have a slim psp, then there's nothing you can do, i'm sorry :(

supaquickt says:

Hmm can't he just use the PSP slim unbricker to go from official 3.71 to 3.71 M33? Or is there something I'm missing here..

ShePherd says:

Hi

--------

Is 3.71 M33 a bricker ?

My PSP bricked with 3.71 M33

Why ???

supaquickt says:

No this is not a bricker, also did you follow this step correctly:

5. Once finished, the updater will ask you to press X or O to reboot. You MUST do this, otherwise you'll end up with a brick.

The bad news is I don't know why yours bricked, the good news is it can be restored. Follow http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=3739 to unbrick.

Acerthief says:

what firmware were you on when you are going to 3.71M33?

you either have to be on 3.60M33, 3.52M33-3, 3.52M33-4, either of these three custom firmware in order to upgrade to 3.71M33.

any other firmware can only give you a brick.

Frozentjai says:

I have now 3.40 EO-A version.i downloaded NBA 2008 today but if i start the game and it gives a black screen...So the question is can i upgrade to 3.71 m33 and than i can play that game without any error or black screen(monster freedom hunter 2 doesn't work for same reason)

x3sphere says:

To install 3.71 M33, you'll first need to install 3.52 M33:

http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=2732

Then update to 3.52 M33-4:

http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=3185

Once on 3.71 M33, you'll want to press SELECT in the PSP main menu and switch the ISO mode to Sony NP9660. This should fix your compatibility problems...

neoWolves says:

Wowww, i was out for to long, now i see that the big one its back, YEAH, now i can play psx in my slim psp thnks men you are awsome..8)

s2000_77 says:

x3sphere, thanks for your reply im gonna give it a shot when i get a chance to....but i was reading over the pandora battery post in the forum and im unsure of something...does that mean when i get to the last steps for 'unbricking a bricked psp' that i need either a different psp or a memory card reader to finish loading the files??? thanks in advance

s2000_77 says:

sorry forgot to add something....or does that mean it only applies in the instance that some how my psp becomes bricked or is it necessary in converting my battery

x3sphere says:

s2000_77, if you want to go the Pandora route you will need someone with a homebrew-capable PSP to install the memory stick files and convert the battery for you.

You said you're running firmware 3.11, so you can use the normal 3.11 downgrader instead, which requires a copy of the game Lumines.

s2000_77 says:

ok i see, i was looking over that to but i just wanted to see if there was a route i could go with having to buy something haha but looks like i might have to...guess ill look into buying lumines sounds easier i just dont know if i can find it in stores ill have to check online then thanks for your help :)

reggierabbit says:

Hey,

I got 3.71 M33 - 2 with 1.5 kernal v2. Two problems:

1. Everytime i try to go innto the configuration menu in recovery mode, my psp shuts off.

2. Everytime i load up an iso, my umd loads instead and now i cant change the umd loader cause config not working!

How can i fix this?

Thanks

reggierabbit says:

Dont worry, i fixed it.

I went to format flash1 and reset settings.

Another question:

What are all the flash0, 1, 2, 3etc?

What is idstorage?

Thanks

reggierabbit says:

Sorry, another question:

What is "Hard reset on homebrew"?

What is "ISO Video Mount"?

And the psp wont skip the sony logo.

Thanks

x3sphere says:

Hard reset on homebrew basically does a soft reset before launching any homebrew application, making it load a touch quicker.

ISO Video Mount is for UMD Videos.

flash0 - 3 contain firmware modules and settings, idstorage contains hardware specific settings. As for your wallpaper saving problem, can you go into recovery mode and turn on flash1 USB.

Make sure you have ALL of the following folders:

http://forums.exophase.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3448&stc=1&d=1191455793

in "vsh" there should also be a "theme" folder. Create these folders if you don't already have them.

MenaceInc says:

only load a touch quicker or run a touch quicker?...i was wondering what that feature did.

reggierabbit says:

OK, fixed everything. thanks guys. Anything cool i can do with the psp with the flash. How do people brick when they mod the flash, do they delete the wrong file or does it just stuff up?

MenaceInc says:

your right about the flash,it only bricks really when they delete the wrong files.

it can happen though due to a bad flash.

the only reason to mess about with the flash is to add theme's which you can do using CXMB v2.5 . the big advantage about CXMB is that is does not touch the flash at all and so takes away the chances of a brick.

reggierabbit says:

What about the waves and gameboots?

reggierabbit says:

I got them going, but why cant you use stuff from previous firmwares, what difference does it make?

How can i make custom gameboots for 3.17 M33?

Thanks

nickwar says:

Dark_AleX YOU ROCK

x3sphere says:

That's because Sony changes the theme format with each new firmware. Custom 3.52 M33 gameboots *should* work on the new 3.71 M33, but make sure you've installed the 3.71 M33-2 update before flashing them.

nkv says:

I just bought my first psp. Where should I get all the initial info. on the firmwares. I read a lot about 3.71 M33 firmware, but is there any place where I can read out from the beginning. I just need to be aware of the whole thing, Jumping to the end is just not working for me. Please help.

reggierabbit says:

Long story, the 3.71 M33 firmware is one of many custom firmwares....In a place far far away, there once lived a 20 year old student known as Dark_Alex, his reign of glory started when he designed a custom firmware, this custom firmware had been redesigned from the original firmwares which were made by an empire called SONY! These legendary custom firmwares allowed home-made programs know as homebrew to be run on the psp. They also allowed backed up games to be played on the psp. Many other abilities of the legendary firmwares included, skipping the sony boot screen , changing cpu speeds and much more. As the great Dark_Alex continued creating these firmwares, he grew stronger until he was noticed by the empire, so he fled, leaving the scene of creating more firmwares. After his fleeing, a group of russian hackers known as M33 recreated these firmwares and continued its legend. Recently M33 released 3.71 M33 but there was one dark secret about M33.........."IT IS I, DARK_ALEX, I HAVE BEEN DISGUISED AS M33 ALL THIS TIME, HAHAHA, YOU WILL NEVER DESTROY ME SONY!!!". It is said he will never return but we will have to see what happens next....

MenaceInc says:

haha, nice story...best i've read in a while.definately cheered me up in the middle of an information systems class.....(its business under a different name)

Cheezeball99 says:

 OH JEEZ. LMAO, +rep.

reggierabbit says:

yeah, i got bored..

reggierabbit says:

Is DA spanish or what?

Has anyone met him in person...

Acerthief says:

yeah he's spanish

ask x3.

He knows all the "key characters". XD

BorgmanJayce says:

I was wondering why I couldn't boot up at all from my Memory Stick in the first place... I didn't even know that Joysens could cause that sort of problem... I take it the guy who created Joysens is aware of the problem and will come up with a bugfix as it's a godsend for me as I still have problems with my analog stick thanks to my faceplate being a pain in the ass...

On another note, is there a list of 3.71 M33 compatible plugins available anywhere?

reggierabbit says:

It would be cool if DA made something like the new theme changer in the new firmware but with full customization. And how come he cant make the updates like the official updates so they run on any firmware?

x3sphere says:

He can't because official firmwares only run encrypted EBOOTs. You can't really encrypt an EBOOT that the PSP will run without knowing Sony's private key.

reggierabbit says:

oh ok

reggierabbit says:

What if he decrypted the eboot?

x3sphere says:

Well of course it is possible to decrypt the EBOOTs, otherwise OE / M33 wouldn't exist.

Anyways, once you decrypt though, its not possible to re-encrypt the file. So, once decrypted, the file won't run on official firmware.

Gerrard says:

i gt an problem to update to 3.71 m33. i using 3.52m33-4 but i follow the guide and it appear file corrupted in my psp, wad shd i do or check?

x3sphere says:

Where did you place the UPDATE folder? X:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE ?

Try formatting your memory stick and see if that helps.

Gerrard says:

ya! i put it inside! so i reformat now?

Gerrard says:

i reformat it and put the UPDATE folder into PSP/GAME/update! but still it show corrupt file, cannot be start icon. wad shd i do now?

x3sphere says:

no, the UPDATE folder doesn't go inside of PSP/GAME/UPDATE

I'm saying you should have a UPDATE folder inside of GAME, with the files that are included in the M33 zip.

Gerrard says:

ya! i get wad u mean already, insde the folder shd b eboot(rename to 371.pbp) and umodule.prx right? but still it cant, still corrupted.. any configuaration to adjust? i already configure it into 3.52kernel game folder...

x3sphere says:

Yes that's right. Well I'm not sure what to tell you. Can you try with a different memory stick?

Gerrard says:

yes, i tried already. but still the same, gt any idea? as from my psp, i change the font icon battery and volume bar...does those theme affect the setting?

x3sphere says:

nope, theme shouldn't affect anything.

question: do any homebrew applications show up correctly for you?

Gerrard says:

homebrew application? wad do u mean by dat? i'm kind of confuse rite now...

x3sphere says:

any program for the PSP. Like a game, emulator, etc. Does it show up?

Are you sure you didn't overwrite the EBOOT.PBP in the UPDATE folder with something else?

Gerrard says:

don have! i nv paly those kind of gameboy game. i re-downloaded it and re-xtract but still show corrupt file? mayb in recovery mode, do i have to do setting?

Gerrard says:

ok! i solve it already, thanks alot!

x3sphere says:

how did you fix it? in case someone else ends up having a similar problem.

Gerrard says:

oh. i rename the wrongly, i put extra space after the dot.

Gerrard says:

for the addon150kernael, i have to find 150updater and put inside update folder rite? but when it load, it say inexist...file, why?

Acerthief says:

open the archive, open up 150kernel_addon2 folder and you'll see a UPDATE folder and the readmes. put the folder into ms0:/PSP/GAME and start the program on your PSP. :D

Nitcheyman1 says:

The fact that DAX and M33 are the same will haunt me forever

Also, this stupid thing is driving me insane. i have a fat psp with 3.52m33-4 but the 3.71m33 update keeps telling me that i need 3.52-3 or higher. last i checked 4 was higher then 3. What would do that

x3sphere says:

You need go into Recovery mode by holding R during bootup and change the GAME folder kernel setting to 3.52.

Nitcheyman1 says:

it is! Well...Was. traded for a slim. but i triple checked it. i don't want to screw up my slim from something that stupid.

Droid1 says:

I have install m33 3.71-2 and I've been having a few probs with it on my psp fat. Is it possible to go back to m33 3.52 firmware? What do I have to do? Just run the 3.52 update?

x3sphere says:

EDIT: Don't try this, as it will cause a brick (see below)

Instead, follow this guide to downgrade to 1.50, and then upgrade to 3.52 M33.

:mad1: I had the kernal patch so I tried to go back to 3.52 and guess what? my psp is now bricked with no recovery!!!

WTF I'm pretty mad over here, never should have upgraded in the first place....:mad1:

x3sphere says:

Well I found out why you bricked. I'm guessing you have a TA-082 or TA-086 motherboard, as going from 3.71 M33 to 3.52 M33 worked fine on my TA-079 PSP.

What happened is that during the 3.71 M33 upgrade, idstorage key 5 is un-patched. When installing the 1.5 kernel, key 5 remains un-patched. If you downgrade to any previous custom firmware version or 1.50 with a un-patched key 5, it will brick.

I figured D_A re-patched key 5 when users install the 1.5 kernel patch to avoid issues like this, but apparently not. However there is a way to successfully downgrade by using Noobz's 3.50 downgrader on 3.71 M33, as it fixes the idstorage keys before downgrading. Too bad I didn't notice this before, but at least it will save others who attempt the same.

Thankfully bricks aren't exactly as bad as they used to be, since you can still recover with Pandora.

I'm not really sure if this is a 3.71M33 issue, or a 1.5 Kernel add-on v2 issue, but I am having a problem running certain PSX games. Some still work and some don't, and the games that don't work were fully functional before the upgrade from 3.52-4M33. I've read where other people had the issue after installing the 1.5 kernel, but I don't understand why it would cause this because my GAME folder is currently running the 3.71 kernel and not the 1.5.

If it is a 1.5 issue, is there someway to remove the 1.5 Add on? Thanks

x3sphere says:

Yeah, it seems that people do have problems with certain PSone games after installing the patch.

There's no way to just remove the add-on, you'll either have to create a Pandora battery and magic memory stick to install a fresh 3.71 M33-2, or downgrade back to 1.5 then install 3.52 M33, upgrade to 3.52 M33-4, then finally install 3.71 M33.

Personally I'd recommend going with Pandora and get a spare battery and memory stick, that way you can always easily recover back to 3.71 M33.

Acerthief says:

Update to 3.52M33, then to 3.52M33-4

(you can stop here as 90% or more games work here)

then use THIS GUIDE to 3.80M33, along with Update 5 patch and 1.5kernel add-on.

bloop234 says:

When I go to the PSP Update to get the 3.71 M33 whatever, it says that my PSP is version 6.20, so there is no need to update, how do I do it then?

january39 says:

You need a pandora battery if you have a phat psp, if you have a slim you need to research some more. If you got a 3000 then your out of luck. Same if you have a Go.
