Kinect To Overtake Move In Sales, Says Pachter

by Mike Bendel on December 2, 2010 @ 11:11 am

With competition in the motion space heating up, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter is placing a big bet on Kinect. He believes that Microsoft’s hands-free solution has the edge, forecasting sales in the region of 8 million by year’s end.

“Depending on pricing, we could see an installed base that approaches 20-25 million by year-end 2011,” he further noted.

It’d be quite a victory for Microsoft, to outpace Move despite the fact that it launched nearly a month earlier. Time will tell, the race is only beginning.

The thing about the Kinect is that people are easily impressed by the games; although the longevity of the fun doesn't last that long. It's great at impressing people who then go out and buy one...but is it a great gaming platform? I'm still going to buy one down the road, mainly for use with the PC though.

Microsoft sure knows how to make a device that grabs attention and is easy to sell; but they're not fooling us core gamers...I think

I agree with everything tbh.

I might get a Kinect myself after I move in to my new apartment next month, though for now Move and Planet Minigolf have been doing the trick. Me and my buddies want to play these casual games when we're all together and unfortunately Move doesn't have that great of a choice.

Then again, people like me are the ones MS is marketing this to. But the hardcore in me says "save the money for better games"

Whether or not the Kinect wins by sales numbers or not..The Move is far more exciting to play than the Kinect. I would never buy that lowsy Microsoft game.

then don't, no one's forcing you to buy it, personally, i plan to at some point in the future

At this time I think I too prefer the Move, particular games like Boccie and Disc Golf on Sports Champions, but that's it. The move is more competitive while the Kinect is more co-operative at this point

I can believe it. Somehow my wife even wants one of these and I've never even mentioned it to her. I think the game that has you acting out movie scenes looks fun.

Amy39927 says:

Agreed FrozenIpaq Sports Champion is actually pretty difficult to play!

Sousanator says:

I think you hit it spot on.

With Sports Champions I had a difficult time leveling up playing Ping Pong, and that to me was more fun then creaming the CPU in Kinect Sports. Also, I felt more involved playing games like volleyball (one handed) on SC rather then sliding my body over with KS.

When I'm alone, the Move is more fun since the CPU is more challenging and the controls are more precise, but when I have people over, Kinect wins their hearts for that sleek co-operative play, and being able to use any part of your body.

Amy39927 says:

Yeah, I like a challenge! I had a hell of time hitting the targets on archery/Sports Champions.
