As stereoscopic 3D TV sets inch closer into the affordable realm for those budget-minded, Sony’s gaming division is placing a big bet on the tech.

That’s according to SCEE studio director Mick Hocking, who says over 50 forthcoming PS3 titles will feature 3D support to some degree, speaking to trade site Develop at Liverpool conference:

Overall we have more than fifty titles currently being converted into 3D, and this number if growing fast.

Of said titles, around 20 are internal first-party efforts, indicating that there’s a fair amount of external studios lending their support. Which, to say the least, is good news for early adopters of 3DTVs.

Sony really have put all their eggs in one basket, it would seem. If this doesn't catch on, they're gonna regret it.

Joey says:

Not really, since 3D has been, and will presumably be merely an option on TV's and media for the near future, if not forever. Not a lot to lose if it doesn't catch on.
