Kinect Shifts 1 Million In 10 Days

It’s 10 days into the Kinect launch, how is it fairing against Sony’s recently-released PlayStation Move? Quite well, if early sales figures from Microsoft are any indication. The console maker announced today that it has sold 1 million units of the hands-free camera device in a mere 10 days.

Xbox division head Don Mattrick chimes in on the bustling momentum:

We are appreciative of the response we have seen from consumers that has culminated in sales of more than one million units in the first 10 days on the market for Kinect for Xbox 360. This is a great start to the holiday season, and we will continue to work with our retailer partners to keep pace with high demand and deliver against our plan to sell more than five million Kinect sensors worldwide by the end of this year.

Not too shabby. Although, 1 million is still a far cry from the lofty year’s end target of 5 million that Microsoft has set. At the current pace, though, such a goal remains realistic.

While it's good for Microsoft, it's not that great that both motion control systems took off. I really don't fancy having to wave around my arm to play games in the future, or even have it play a big part in gameplay.

While I do agree with you, this just goes to show how good the MS Marketing Department is.

In 10 days Kinect was able to sell 1.5M less than Move did in Europe in 3 weeks. At this pace with will quickly outsell move, but let's see if this was just not a release craze, which I think it's not. But the argument I hear for Kinect from "hardcore" 360 owners is always the same: "Give us hardcore on it and we'll buy". I want to see if MS can cater to that segment of the fanbase and not only to the family segment. If it doesn't Kinect is just another Wii in my book (even though I have to admit since E3, I really want to get a Wii because of some upcoming games)

Hardcore+motion gaming just doesn't work. Personally, I hate the wave of motion gaming that's been happening since the launch of the Wii. If someone wants to say it makes it more immersive, I haven't had problems being immersed in games before...after a while, I forget the controller is there. With Wii games though, I'm nearly always conscious of having to wave the controller about or what not.
