Crytek May Revisit TimeSplitters Universe

by Mike Bendel on November 1, 2010 @ 1:58 pm

Shortly following Crytek’s acquisition of UK-based developer Free Radical, the studio has remained mum on plans for its satire heavy TimeSplitters universe, despite the fact that a fourth installment was announced way back in 2007. Although that project has since been put on hold, Crytek UK is reportedly still mulling over the idea of a comeback, company managing director Karl Hilton has revealed to Eurogamer:

We’re talking to publishers at the moment about whether that’s [TimeSplitters] a viable route or not.

And therein lies the rub. Hilton added that the company remains undecided over whether to stick with TimeSplitters or create a new IP altogether. For the time being, Crytek is polling interest from publishers, so as to make a firm decision in regards to direction.

With the influx of franchise reboots as of late, now seems like an opportune time to bring back TimeSplitters. Here’s hoping that Crytek finds a publisher that will back it.

I needs to play these series after all I've heard about it...

Joey says:

I wasn't a fan of TS2, and never played the first one, but Future Perfect is a must play. Great FPS, and a hilarious story.

Although, I am a huge fan of time travel, so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it. Just an amazing concept for a game, and it was executed really well.

KezraPlanes says:

Just checked and besides TS1, I can play all the games on my recently acquired GameCube: TS2, Second Sight and Future Perfect

MenaceInc says:

Second Sight isn't a Timesplitters game :\

I really freaking loved Timesplitters 2 and Future Perfect. I preferred TS2 but only marginally, they were both awesome games. I remember working through the challenges and trying to get gold trophies on all of them xD Aaaah, good times.

Here's hoping that CryTek UK get onto it :D

KezraPlanes says:

For some reason I assumed it was =\ xD Silly me
