Update: PlayStation Move Moves 1 Million In North America

Update: Contrary to Reuters’ report, IGN staffer Arthur Gies contacted SCEA for clarification and was informed that the 1 million figure covers units shipped, not sold.

Sony’s PlayStation Move motion controller is off to a sound start — not only in Europe, but in North America as well. Sony Computer Entertainment America has revealed to Reuters that sales of the device have eclipsed 1 million units, bringing the worldwide tally to 2.5 million, if you factor in the previously released 1.5 million figure for Europe.

This milestone comes contrary to Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter’s initial expectations, who forecasted that the Move would shift around 300K in its first month.

SCEA president and CEO Jack Tretton chimed in on the success of Move, noting that the company is “absolutely maxed out” on unit shipments and has had to increase production twice to meet demand.
