Microsoft is pouring a hefty amount of advertising dollars into its hands-free motion controller Kinect, to the tune of approximately $500 million dollars. According to an NY Post report, the firm is prepping a “major movie-style marketing blitz” to raise awareness.
Kinect will be featured on nearly every mass-market product you can imagine: including soda cans and cereal boxes. The widespread approach is sure to hit demographics of all ages.
“Kinect is the largest, most integrated marketing initiative in Xbox history, bigger than its launch,” said Xbox GM of marketing communications Robert Matthews. “We are going to be spending millions to launch this globally.”
Excessive? Well, you have to take into account that Microsoft is touting Kinect as a key platform launch. They obviously aren’t holding back with this one.
Kinect launches November 4 in North America.
