StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm Is 18 Months Out

by Mike Bendel on October 8, 2010 @ 12:12 pm

To say Blizzard is taking its sweet time with StarCraft II expansion Heart of the Swarm would be an understatement. During a panel at GDC Austin, Battle.net project director Greg Canessa dropped word that the title is 18 months out, GameSpot reports.

Canessa labeled forthcoming Battle.net functionality such as “trading replays, broadcasting replays, and upgrading profiles” as a main area of focus for the Zerg expansion, which is also said to incorporate more RPG-centric elements.

18 months from now means it would arrive in April at the latest. While Blizzard has never been known to rush out its expansions — Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne was held up in development for a year, this wait sets a new precedent, for better or worse.

Well, the changes are very welcomed. Trading Replays and improving the whole battle.net interface would be great. Right now, it's a bit inflexible. It works great in Quick Play, but with custom friend lobbies it tends to become a pain.
