3DS May Have Automatic Firmware Updates

Nintendo may deploy an automatic firmware update system for 3DS, according to company president Satoru Iwata.
“As part of the functionality of SpotPass, we’re looking into having automatic system updates via the Internet,” noted Iwata in an investors briefing Wednesday, as reported by Andriasang.
Further, Iwata said that Nintendo may include mandatory firmware updates on 3DS carts, an approach that is all too familiar on PSP and PS3. This, Iwata feels, would aid in preventing piracy and ensure that all 3DS owners are on the same page, giving Nintendo more flexibility over adding new software features.
