Square Enix Dev Expresses Interest In Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII Remake On 3DS

by Mike Bendel on September 30, 2010 @ 2:01 am

Currently a mobile cellphone exclusive, Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII could see a release on Nintendo 3DS if Final Fantasy Agito XIII director Hajime Tabata has his way.

“If I were to make something for 3DS, I suppose it would be a remake of Before Crisis Final Fantasy VII,” noted Tabata in an interview with Andriasang. He added, “I’d redo the scenario structure and game design for the 3DS. I think I’d like to make an action RPG BCFF7 where a large number of Turks players play simultaneously.”

The action RPG hit Japan’s DoCoMo phones in 2004, serving as a prequel to the original Final Fantasy VII. It never reached US shores due to a mammoth gap in cellphone technology at the time.

Tabata was keen to note that his intentions should in no way be construed as official Square Enix word. Regardless, it’s a no-brainer that we’ll see Final Fantasy in one way or another on the 3DS eventually. A remake of Before Crisis seems like a good fit, given the seemingly endless yearning for more FFVII.

This could be cool, but it still seems like it'll probably just be a massive cash in on the series.

Deathrow says:

Yea, indeed it would be Riorio. The story and events of Final Fantasy VII were probably the most influential in the series as a productive RPG game. It's sad though they can't just pick on the same events, but introduce newer ones. A army of Turks would be kinda neat I guess lol.
