Nintendo has confirmed that its next handheld iteration, the Nintendo 3DS, will hit Japan on February 26 of next year. A release in North America and Europe will follow in March. The near-simultaneous timing is a first for Nintendo.

The new tech will carry a hefty price tag, at least in comparison to Nintendo’s previous portable launches. Nintendo has stamped a 25000 yen price tag on the 3DS, which converts to approximately $298 in US dollars. Concrete pricing details over yonder will be announced at a later date.

Additionally, Nintendo has confirmed that it is bringing a Virtual Console of sorts to the 3DS, complete with a downloadable library of select Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles. In addition, Nintendo plans to roll out a “Classic Games” section to its download store, featuring past gems spruced up with 3D effects.

KezraPlanes says:

I know that. But most likely won't be the US & EU price.

Riorio99 says:

I'm thinking $250 and £200, maybe a little bit more. Either way, I'm getting this as soon as budget allows. GB & GBA Virtual Console have pretty much just sold this to me, as well as the great looking line-up.

MenaceInc says:

If it's about £200, I may consider it but it's definitely not a launch buy for me. I'll wait for both the price to come down a bit (or bundles to come out) and the software library to fill out a bit.

Nader says:

Don't really care about the 3D gimmick, but really love the idea of cheap good fun to be had with old classics.
