Pachter “Baffled” By Sony’s PSP Strategy, Reckons PSP2 Should Emulate 3DS Tech

Outspoken Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is completely “baffled” by Sony’s handling of the PSP and feels its successor should “emulate” the 3DS tech-wise.

“I’m completely baffled by Sony’s PSP strategy.  They owned the portable entertainment market with the Walkman, and sat back and watched as Nintendo dominated games and Apple dominated music,” explained Pachter in an interview with trade site IndustryGamers. He added,  ”They never quite got it right with an MP3 player, and their initial effort in games was a bit too pricey and sophisticated for the majority of the portable gaming market (kids under 13).”

“If Sony were really smart, they’d emulate the 3DS and put a 3D screen on the PSP2.”

While Sony’s future plans for the portable space remain unclear, recent accounts by developers — most notably Mortal Kombat’s executive producer Shaun Himmerick — suggest that the PSP2 is already in the hands of trusted partners.

What are your thoughts? Should Sony follow in Nintendo’s footsteps this time around?
