Sony Discounts PlayStation Protection Plan for Plus Members

by Mike Bendel on August 24, 2010 @ 1:18 pm

In an effort to offer more for less, PlayStation Plus subscribers can purchase a two year PS3 PS Protection Plan for the price of $44.99, Sony announced today.

The offer gives Plus subscribers two years of the extended warranty service for the price of one. Coverage perks include pre-paid shipping for service requests and direct access to PS Support specialists. Acceptance to the plan still requires that your PS3 unit is under its standard 12 month manufacture warranty.

Any word on if this is being applied in the UK?

They haven't announced any plans to bring the program to other countries yet. There's a good chance it will hit Europe eventually, just later as usual :p

Cool, I suppose, but they really should have just thrown in the Protection Plan free with PS+ and vice versa. That would be nice.

I'll file this away on my "who fucking cares" file.

I agree for the most part. Service plans on consoles are a money sink IMO. I'll just take my chances. I've never had a problem with any of mine apart from the original PS2, which started throwing DREs about 3 years after I bought it. Luckily, Sony still fixed it for free even though it was out of warranty. Would've just went for a new slimline unit otherwise.

To be honest, i have always found the customer service with SCE to be very good. Door to door service & no quibbles.
