Treyarch: Black Ops Modding Support Coming Post-Launch

by Mike Bendel on August 23, 2010 @ 12:25 pm

In addition to backing community-run dedicated servers, developer Treyarch has another ace up its sleeve for the PC version of Call of Duty: Black Ops. In an official forum post, a Treyarch developer revealed that the company plans to open up Black Ops to modders “sometime post-launch.” Also making its welcomed return is the dev console.

We plan to open the game up for modding sometime post-launch. We do not know yet to what extent you will be able to mod the game. There are some purely technical issues related to engine and internal tool enhancements that do not easily fit the modtools paradigm. We have looked at it close enough to see that it is non-trivial and we will have to pick it up again post-launch. Right now we are completely focused on finishing the game.

And, dev console: confirmed.

This bodes well for PC folks. Many felt Infinity Ward butchered multiplayer on PC by forcing its matchmaking-centric IWnet service on players, an outcry turned boycott that was heard on every gaming forum across the net.

The guy on the image reminds me of Ben Stiller in Tropic Thunder.

Post-Launch=After we've finished releasing any DLC we planned, which will probably take up to a year.

Hey Treyarch what's the deal ? Do you not moitor the online play of the games you create or what ? There is more glitching and cheating on Black Ops than there ever was on Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 . Me and many others are getting really sick of the phantom claymores and sentry guns ( the ones that don't show up even when you are useing "Hacker" , the players that don't die no matter how much you shoot them or with whatever weapon you use but ,they can kill anyone in the game with a single shot from a pistol. And last the people that are not affected in any way by the Tomahawk or Ballistic Knife , they simply pass through them with no effect. You are so worried about patching all the crap that does not matter ,like the gold guns and the Hardline care packages, Well here is an idea ,why not stop counting the money you got from all of us who bought this game and come up with a patch that addresses the true issues of the game , all of the cheating and modding crap !

crap, you discovered that Treyarch secretly monitor's this forum

anywho, has any of this modding support been implemented yet?

Zero says:

If some cool mods come out, my interest in this game may be rekindled.

I also remember the days when games were finished when they were put on the shelves.

Josey Wales says:

Its not use remembering the day when we all walked 5 miles in the snow to get to 2nd grade either...
