Dyack Foresees A One Console Future

by Mike Bendel on August 20, 2007 @ 3:38 pm

Denis Dyack, the President of Silicon Knights, revealed during his GCDC lecture that he foresees a “one console future,” where all major console manufactures such as Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft work to create a single, standardized gaming platform.

Dyack envisions that all manufactures would set forth universal specifications for hardware as well as content. Good example of this is the DVD format and DVD players. All in all, this would allow for better games, lower production costs, and shorter development times (i.e. no developers calling out on another console).

Sounds interesting… but will it happen? Dyack believes it will, as early as the next wave of hardware.

That would be categorized as an illegal monopoly, though, right?

x3sphere says:

Not exactly. You'd still have different consoles on the market, but they would play all the same games.

Because it'd be a universal standard, just like the DVD format.

Personally I don't see it happening because this would cut off hardware innovation.

I wish it would happen. Sony,Microsoft,Nintendo working together to make ultimate system. No more missing out on games cause you want a certain system Bascially would be amazing for the gaming community depending on wether or not the console the envisioned changed to much. I would love it no more guess work and then no one loses.

But I thought Dyluck, along with Phanna, was captured by Thanatos, and that's why that girl's on this journey... *ahem* Erm, DyACK, got it.

Okay, I thought he was talkin' like the uber-console. Anyway, yeah, I don't think it'll happen either.

GPUX says:

Never going to happen, besides whats the point? if someone is looking for such a generalized platform they'd best go with the PC.

uh huh, what about the current war between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray then?

RJC4LIFE says:

Blu-Ray all the way..
