PSP Custom Firmware 3.52-M33-4 Released

by Mike Bendel on August 20, 2007 @ 1:39 pm

Not even a full day after 3.52-M33-3 was released, the team is back with the fourth update to its 3.52 custom firmware series, fixing some minor bugs.

IMPORTANT: agree with LICENSE.TXT conditions before installing the program.

Changes in M33-4 (mainly bugfix)

- Fixed the bug that caused CRC error when writing to flash usb in the XMB. Now writing
is OK.
- Added the new speeds to vshmenu and core, because we forgot in recovery.

AS we didnn’t want to release a new update without something new, we worked in making
3.10/3.11 to work with popsloader, and that’s it, the new popsloader plugins supports them.
Instruction for 3.10 and 3.11 are same as 3.30: you need pops.prx, popsman.prx and pafmini.prx
with the correct names in popsloader directory. And remember that savedata of 3.10-3.30 are incompatible
with those of 3.40+. We’ll research if a solution for this is possible.

Team M33

———————————————————————————————
As for yankee paranoids, a little word about the “brickers” issue.
We repeat it again: THERE IS NO MALICIOUS CODE inside M33.
Some of the files of this update are protected by encryption schemes to protect ourselves
from that page that annoys homebrew developers.
The keys for the decryption: the own update file.
So if the file is changed, the decrypted data is not the original one, and this causes the
wrong data to be written. There is no way you can call this malicious code as there is no explicit
code to brick nothing, it is the corruption of the update what actually causes the bad decrypted
data to be written.

Anyways in this update we check if decrypted data is wrong and in that case we write a recovery
warning the user what happened. It will activate usb, and it will allow you to execute a recovery
eboot.pbp… in a curious path (“ms0:/PSP/GAME/PS3NEWS_ARE_STEALERS_I_AM_NOT_GONNA_VISIT_THEM/EBOOT.PBP”)
which is not at sight of an hex editor ;)

If you visited ps3news and bricked in last release, then blame his administrator.
He is the one that modified the files and had them in the server for lots of hours
knowing the consequences.

As this person doesn’t care about publishing homebrew coders personal info because he thinks he’s
funny and hursh doing that, we dont think he will mind either that we “leak” his data :)
After all is nformation that can be obtained publically.

Remember, you must be running any previous version of 3.52 M33 to apply this update. To install the update, just copy over the PSP folder contained in the archive to your memory stick, then navigate to the Game menu and execute the update.

Nice one. I was hoping they would fix the flash0 thing soon. haha nice name for a folder. Wonder what it means???? xD

Cheezeball99 says:

LMAO, Jeez, GREAT ANGER! That's awesome, they just released the actual street addy 'n' such. When they mean business they mean business, no?

Hanzo_f19 says:

ho, i forgot to say that if u are to scared to apgrade to 3.52 m33-3 update to this one,i think is comulative,it will let u go to recovery

Chilly Willy says:

Why do some people just HAVE to be such dicks? It doesn't make much sense. Is it just money? Well, maybe someone will sue him and then he'll quit. Actually, he wouldn't quit, just move on to the next scam.

GPUX says:

hope someone hacks PS3NEWS for good.

Ecko says:

These guys are machines....

supaquickt says:

Yeh simply awesome, I love it how they say "we didn't want to release a new update without something new" so they just make 3.10/3.11 work with popsloader. Its like simple easy hours work haha. Also glad to see they built in a recovery mode for unsuspecting newbies who download from PS3news. Good work M33.

Acerthief says:

agreed Xd

it's like if you plug the internet line in their brains they're able to run the whole www. internet.

Cheezeball99 says:

THE WWW!? I thought Lan and Megaman.exe had destroyed the WWW! Heh, nevermind. Anyway, yeah, it's kinda crazy, they just keep adding and adding great stuff.

GPUX says:

These guys are the fastest bunch of developers I've seen.

Moonflow43 says:

can i go straight to this update without using the m33-2 and m33-3 update first?

x3sphere says:

Yes. The only requirement is that you are running 3.52 M33.

Moonflow43 says:

that was very fast, and i am on 3.52 m33. thank you!

shadowthor says:

Update works perfectly. It seems the banned site, placed the following response,

For the time being our Forums are turned OFF. This is at the owner's request of former Web site PS2Ownz (which is the predecessor of where we reside today). Apparently what happened is M33 released a file which contains his personal data, and at this time we are kindly asking other Web sites to remove this information so that the harassment stops.

Respected PSP sceners including Dark_AleX have been in favor of this personal data attack, but their addresses and other personal info have NOT been published and we would like to end the bickering right now versus allowing it to escalate even further.

If this is acceptable then we will completely purge our Forums of all past releases and related posts, and only link to their official Web sites with their official releases from this time onward giving them full credit and donations as they wish.

If it is not acceptable then our only choice will be to defend ourselves by doing what was done to the PS2Ownz owner which we do not wish to be done to anyone.

Please contact us (Dark_AleX, M33, Wildcard) if you would like to end this now and we will reply to you ASAP... if we do not hear from you in a reasonable amount of time (next day or two) then we will be forced into defending ourselves I guess.

_________

I personally think that it serves them right. M33 good job.

x3sphere says:

Will be interesting to see what they do. D_A or Wildcard have no intention of cooperating with them.

Cheezeball99 says:

I wouldn't assume so; NO ACTS OF TREASON.

GPUX says:

bastards didn't even properly apologize.

x3sphere says:

heh, yeah, and they want people to remove their address information from sites? As far as I'm concerned it's part of the readme, and I won't be editing that out.

Alucard says:

I hate to overreact, but now he has to worry about some crazy person showing up at his house and doing something bad to him or even his family. He should move himself and his family out of that address ASAP.

That alone would be a reason for this site to not post his address. I would hate to have a guilty conscience if something bad did happen.

I don't agree with what PS3news does, and I'm pretty sure that the PS3news admin deserves every bit of it, but I other people that are not involved could get caught in the middle.

I know that I'm going to get a lot of flak for this post, but that's the way I think.

x3sphere says:

True, I guess I will edit it out. As much as I hate the site for what they did I wouldn't like to see something happening to his family.

But I wonder if he even cares. On the PSPX forum, M33 apparently are threatening to release more information if the site is not shut down. I'm quite sure they've seen this and so far have done nothing.

Hanzo_f19 says:

i don't know if i'm right but didn't they did the same with DAX?

Alucard says:

Like I said, they are 100% wrong if they did the same thing to Alex. I know PSPNews deserves every bit of this especially since it seems like he doesn't even care.

With that said, I do feel like an idiot mentioning this because I wonder why I even care. I don't like to act all high and mighty over something that shouldn't concern me, but I guess when children are involved(I'm a school teacher btw), I tend overreact.

x3sphere, you've got my respect.

fantomas100 says:

help me. im on firmware 3.52 , can i upgrade to 3.52m33 or anythin so i can then downgrade to 1.5? or am i talkin a whole load of bull? i was new to psp and upgraded by mistake, gay me i know. is there no way whatsoever of getting to 3.52m33? then back to 1.5? someone help me, or i will throw my psp at my wall. cant i just like delete the update? no? grrr!!! Thankyou!

supaquickt says:

Sorry If your on 3.52 Official Sony, your stuck for now.

Your options:

Either Trade it, Sell it or Modchip.

I'd try to sell it myself.

EDIT: Well your in luck buddy you can now downgrade 3.52 check the Unbrick thread for the Pandora release, you will need a spare battery and memstick. Oh and a PSP with 1.5 or OE M33 or WC firmware.

lynrossuk says:

same as last update, only buttons work after up date are brightness and volume, all rest not working. Will have to restore last version again. HELP!

x3sphere says:

I don't get it. How did you update in the first place if only the brightness and volume buttons were working?

If you can, try the Advanced -> Format flash1 and reset settings option in Recovery mode.

lynrossuk says:

no! still no joy, seams strange.I placed all files onto memory stick and just went to up date,e.t.c

Roe says:

but how could you press x on the update and move to the update if none of your buttons worked?

lynrossuk says:

i was refering to when i updated before keys stopped working!

moose187 says:

hey i have 3.50 and i downloaded it to my psp but dont know how to get it going or if i can even use it , i need guidance !!! blease help!

moose187 says:

LET ME CRRECT MY LAST SENTANCE! i downloaded 3.52 w33 or whatever it is and i have 3.50 already, is there n e way i can run this on mine?

Cheezeball99 says:

Yes, you have to downgrade to 1.5 first, using either the Lumines exploit or the Pandora battery, guides located HERE and HERE, respectively, then install 3.52M33, using the guide HERE.

trashcan says:

what exactly happened actually between ps3news and m33? I don't get it.

supaquickt says:

They had a huge rock, paper, scissors fight and ps3news got owned and have never gotten over it.. The sore losers..

Acerthief says:

Not really good to do this but...

BUMP!

There's a few people looking for updates and found update 2, but not 4. so... yeah :D

kanyon says:

i need 3.52m33-4

viper13 says:

i cant load any hombrew games with this version it just loads the umd i have in my psp and with out a umd an error pops up. i tried 2 update 2 version 3.71m33 but it days i need fimware 3.52m33-3 or higher and i currently have 3.52m33-4 can some1 help.

Acerthief says:

your UMD mode is set no "normal", that's why you you'll need a UMD in order to play.

homebrew -> ms0:/PSP/GAME150

or ms0:/PSP/GAME and set the kernel to 1.5

you're good to go to upgrade to 3.71M33.

3.52M33-4 IS higher than 3.52M33-3.

frozen-flame says:

Ok just to make sure.... the archive is the like base folder? where i have game... video. music... photo, save data and system. OR is it in game folder or even just on the psp.. next to the psp folder =/

please help haha >.<

Acerthief says:

open the archive, press PSP, then GAME150, then you'll see a folder that says an "M33UPDATE" (something like that), then decompress that and put it into ms0:/PSP/GAME150.

Ta-da!:D

frozen-flame says:

Hey thanks haha, i figured it out just before i checked your post =P when i downloaded it the first time not all the folders came along but hey it worked the second time =] thanks anyways

Acerthief says:

no problem :)

icedman204 says:

why doesn't most or all cXMB's work on this update to 3.51M33, i've tried but all the themes i used didn't work properly at all..... :|

Acerthief says:

for every firmware the XMB or other file changes a little, so you would have to look for theme compatible with the firmware you're having.

kaiiyu says:

THANKS!

kaiiyu says:

HUH....

wait im a noob at doing this stuff to my psp

but i download this update for it but when i open the file it says on my PSP

"This update doesnt apply to this firmware or this firmware has already been applied."

But after i got to my system settings and its still 3.51 M33?

am i doing anything wrong?

Acerthief says:

you need to upgrade to 3.52M33 first, THEN apply with this update.

mrfuture says:

I have recently moved from 1.5 to 3.52 M33 but can't get the update to M33-4 work.

I can't find the Game150 dir on PSP under PSP folder. I have Game. Tried to put it there but it does not appear under game menu. I have two programs that shows 3:33:3 on a star background with a march calendar showed in background on PSP when selected. It fails to run. How do I move on. I'm fresh into homebrew.

x3sphere says:

Create a GAME150 folder alongside GAME, then place the 3.52 M33-4 in it.

mrfuture says:

I already tried to create the folder. I moved the file from M33update4 folder within Game150, to the Game150 folder but this did not change anything.

x3sphere says:

You're doing something wrong... you're supposed to move the M33Update4 folder inside of GAME150.

Once you've done that delete both of the old M33 folders you have in the old GAME folder.

mrfuture says:

There was definitive something wrong. I tried again and removed all M33 files from the Game folder and it works now. Now moving to next update.

kammy007 says:

best

bmx life says:

what dose it mean put it in ur archive? how do i do that?

x3sphere says:

What? Download the update in the first post, then copy over the PSP folder.

kaco says:

Hi,

i got 3.52 m33, i copy the update file to my MS, direct to the PSP folder, when i try to run it from the game menu, it appears as corrupted data, when i enter again in usb mode, the file eboot.pbp, that should be en PSP/GAME150/M33UPDATE4 , is no longer there,

what can i do ? :confused1:

thanks

Cheezeball99 says:

You could very well have a fake memstick.

kaco says:

Whats a fake memstick ?

i got several data saved on it, music, videos, i can play the emus , with no problem, neo geo, and Game Boy,

x3sphere says:

Fake memory sticks have lower quality parts that usually result in data corruption, like the disappearing files you mentioned.

Back up your data on the stick then format it and see if that fixes the problem.

kaco says:

Thanks i do that ,and it solve but, it doesnt let me network play it appears as no MS installed, im using a 8gb Sony., i tought it was original, i change to my first 1 gb, install the umd iso, and play with no problem, Could that be the issue, my 8gb SONY, is a fake ???

x3sphere says:

in that case, it could also be because it is 8GB. Running programs under the 1.5 kernel (that is GAME150) will not function properly with an 8GB stick.

Although ISO games should work fine as they use the 3.X kernel, not 1.5.

abdull321 says:

hi iam just asking about 3.52 as i tried to download it worked fine on the creator but when i tried to do the updator it stops at the psp screen

Acerthief says:

This only works on custom firmwares or 1.5

Official 3.52 doesn't work. ;)

apdd says:

do i need too delete the update out games menu after i installed... ive already deleted it mind?? cheers

Mikell says:

Okay so i tried to update to v4, i already have 3.52 m33 but eveytime i run the version update it comes up with "the game can not be started". does anyone know what im meant to do lol

Ty in advanced,

Acerthief says:

Make sure you put it in ms0:/PSP/GAME150

Mikell says:

Nope now it comes up with "there are no games" im sure iv done something wrong

Acerthief says:

Did you create both the GAME folder and the GAME150 folder?

Mikell says:

no just the GAME folder with the update in it, the GAME150 folder displayed nothing while using the memory card on the psp. >.<

Acerthief says:

Backup your game saves, pics, vids, etc, and format your memory stick. Now try again.

Mikell says:

Thanks alot dude that seemed to work lol. Strange though.
