Joining the growing list of franchise reboots this generation is Namco Bandai’s long-running Ace Combat series. The company announced today that Ace Combat Assault Horizon is in development by its internal team of combat flight sim specialists at Project Aces. Featuring destructible skyscraper environments, the title promises to take combat “to the next level with aircraft that are literally torn apart, spewing oil and debris across the sky.”

“For us, this is a rebirth of our premiere franchise, ACE COMBAT. It’s a chance for us to take the player in a completely new direction,” said producer Kazutoki Kono.

“I’m confident that we’re creating a new type of intense and visceral action shooting experience with Ace Combat Assault Horizon. We’re utilizing all of our collective vision and skills to deliver a phenomenal game. Players will be closer than ever to the combat, experiencing the impact of each shot fired.”

Ace Combat Assault Horizon is due out on PS3 and Xbox 360 next year.

Awesome news. I love Ace Combat and it's been too long since I've played the last few installments.

Yay! Ace combat on the 360, bout time. Ive spent hours playing on the ps2 and psp, and its my second favorite series, next to halo.

Serideth says:

Ace Combat never interested me as a kid, now with slick graphics and interesting controls I could easily sink my teeth into a game like this.

Spiros says:

There already is an Ace Combat title on the 360, it's called Fires of Liberation, played it once but didn't really interest me, this one sounds good though. I like the idea of skyscrapers that crumble and planes that break apart realistically.
