Ubisoft’s fourth Canadian-based studio, tasked with developing the next Splinter Cell, has a knack for quality. As it expands, the development house has set lofty expectations for the future — forecasting that it will ramp up its software output to internally develop five AAA-caliber efforts simultaneously.
In a recent interview with UK site Develop, Ubisoft Toronto lead Jade Raymond of Assassin’s Creed fame reiterated the studio’s intent to generate 800 jobs over the next decade.
We want to grow to 800 staff in ten years, we’re on two major projects now, and eventually we’ll be working on five. I can’t say specifics now, we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves in our first year. But yeah, that’s the plan.
It remains to be seen if the bulk of these projects will involve new IP or focus on proven franchises, such in the case of Splinter Cell. Ubisoft opened the Toronto, Ontario-based studio last year, backed by $263 million in grant dollars from the government of Ontario.
