Codermasters today announced a new entry in its tactical-focused Operation Flashpoint shooter series, subtitled Red River. Depicting a fictional conflict that unfolds over a three-part campaign setting, the title thrusts players into the remote battlefield of Tajikistan.

Boasting four-way drop-in-drop-out co-operative play, Operation Flashpoint: Red River features several noteworthy refinements over its predecessor, many of which stem from community feedback. Highlights include “a deeper narrative-led campaign, streamlined inventory and control system, a refined enemy and squad AI system, player class roles including customisable XP upgrades and loadout choice, close-quarters combat, new air support options and comprehensive tutorials.”

Apart from the core story-driven campaign, additional game modes are said to center heavy on teamwork, pitting players against “against almost insurmountable odds.” Class roles allow players to hone their skills in a particular area of expertise, a subsection of gameplay that is backed by an XP reward system with customizable equipment and upgrades.

Look for Operation Flashpoint: Red River to hit PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 in 2011.

i enjoyed dragon-rising, might pick this up

Dragon Rising was alright, but in some areas it became frustrating to play.

Like having to travel for 10 minutes only to be killed by AI friendly fire and being sent right back.
