Call of Duty Map Pack Offerings Break 20 Million Downloads

Activision’s announced that its repertoire of DLC-based Call of Duty map packs have surpassed the 20 million download mark. The firm cites internal figures across Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

“The Call of Duty franchise is unique in the world of entertainment and delivers one of the best multiplayer experiences ever,” said Robert Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. “We are thrilled to deliver to fans exciting and engaging content that has the intensity they have come to expect from the franchise.”

At the premium price of $10-15 a pop that Activision charges for these packs, that’s a staggering amount of green. Clearly a significant source of revenue for Activision. There’s little doubt that we’ll see more DLC soon following the eventual release of Black Ops in November.

Guessing that includes map packs for CoD4, WaW and MW2?

I don't think they would of got much money from the PC for map packs since they only started charging with MW2 and even then, the playlists that are for the DLC, I only seen about 200/300 people playing in them at one time.

I like how Kotick calls Call of Duty unique.

They're counting every CoD map pack released, across all platforms. Most likely PS3/360 took the bulk of sales.

screw map packs, get the spawn system to work! its got so many bugs, i quit playing a whileee ago

KurianOfBorg says:

The map pack is such a sham on the PC. There are totally 300 players in the world at any given time playing the map packs making it impossible to get into a game. Its $30 down the drain if you bought the MW2 map packs on Steam.

I figure the reason they didn't release MW2 in most Asian countries is because they can't gouge on DLC. A new game like CoD4 in India is Rs.1299 tops. The map packs alone would be Rs.1500 on Steam.

MenaceInc says:

I'd say probably about 99.999% was console sales :P really think they only sold about 2000 copies of both map packs
