Metro 2033 ‘Ranger Pack’ DLC Arrives August 3, Free On PC

THQ’s bite-sized DLC offering for Metro 2033, known in-name as the Ranger Pack, will hit Steam and Xbox Live Marketplace on August 3. Announced back in May, it’s been a long time coming, but we reckon that it was worth the wait — if only as an excuse to jump back into 4A Games’ meticulously crafted post-apocalyptic abyss.

Alongside additional achievements, the DLC adds two all-new weapons to the fray, namely the Heavy Automatic Shotgun and Volt Driver. Also included are optional variations on gameplay in the form of two new modes — Ranger and Ranger Hardcore.

In the former, ammo is scarce while weapons dole out more damage than usual. The latter mode adds a tinge of realism and challenge, completely stripping away the in-game HUD elements.

The Ranger Pack will be deployed as a free update on Steam, while Xbox 360 owners of the game will have to pony up 240 MS Points ($3) for it.

Guess I'll hold off on my new playthrough then. Ranger Hardcore sounds pretty nice.
