Capcom To Ramp Up Software Output

What is Capcom’s plan of attack when it comes to combating floundering sales? Release more software! The Japanese-based publishing giant is vying to double its output of new entries in major franchises like Resident Evil, according to a Nikkei report.
An uptick in software output, Capcom forecasts, would result in three to four major releases per year — up from an average of two. While there’s a vast amount of manpower involved in the production of these large-scale, big-budget AAA efforts, Capcom hopes to shorten development cycles by leveraging “external resources.” That means strategically outsourcing across North America and Europe.
No complaints here, as long as Capcom can maintain the level of quality we’re accustomed to. On the flip side, following this line of thinking could make things worse, especially if more studios take a similar approach. Flooding a market is risky.
