Street Fighter X Tekken, Tekken X Street Fighter Announced

by Mike Bendel on July 24, 2010 @ 2:17 pm

Longtime fighting genre titans Street Fighter and Tekken are receiving the crossover treatment, Capcom and Namco Bandai announced today. Interestingly, the two companies are not working on a singular effort. Instead, they’ve opted to develop two separate titles, each borrowing heavily from the represented franchises.

Developed by Capcom, Street Fighter X Tekken is built on the same engine that powered Street Fighter IV, sporting 3D character models on a stylized 2D plane. Tekken X Street Fighter, on the other hand, is in development at Namco Bandai. In contrast to the Street Fighter mashup, it caters towards Tekken’s strengths, while introducing familiar faces from SF into the mix.

Both titles are slated to hit Xbox 360 and PS3. No concrete indication of a release date was given, with SFIV producer Yoshinori Ono noting at Capcom’s Comic Con panel earlier today that they won’t be out “for awhile.” Catch a brief trailer of Street Fighter X Tekken after the break.

Abe Froeman says:

I just saw the email with the press release. I highly approve of this idea.

Pokemanz master says:

Some gameplay of Street Fighter x Tekken

Ryu team ultra is epic.

I hope both games are in a bundle or something.

Abe Froeman says:

That looks fucking sick.

Joey says:

I'm more interested in seeing what Tekken x Street Fighter will look like. I'm interested to see how the Street Fighters will look in the Tekken engine.

Serideth says:

This, I don't care much for SF games, but Tekken, I love Tekken.

UserUnknown says:

I assume they're using the new Tekken engine?

Joey says:

There's two games, Street Fighter x Tekken will be in the Street Fighter 4 engine. The Tekken game (which most are calling Tekken x Street Fighter) will be in the Tekken engine.

BlackSheep says:

dang MvC3 now this choices choices i think i might get both :P

Joey says:

Honestly, this would be way more exciting if it was Street Fighter V. Namco. I like the Soul Caliber fighters way more. Out side of Law, I don't really like any of the Tekken fighters. I could get down with some Ryu v. Maxi though. That would be f*cking epic.

Oh well... What could've been.

Craig Fairfax says:

I love fighting games, I grew up playing them. But street fighter 4 could not hold my attention very long. I don't know what it is about that game, but now I'm weary about another game using that same engine.

Riorio99 says:

I was wondering how they could do a Street Fighter vs Tekken game, seeing as both games have entirely different systems, but they've solved that problem and made some extra money at the same time. We're seriously spoilt for choice in terms of fighters this generation, seriously.

Just watched the trailer. I <3 the ending, and now I want Pac-man vs Mega Man more then any of these two games.

Nero says:

I love Street fighter 4, and i cannot wait for this one since i saw the gameplay, almost jizzed my pants. I don't really like tekken but i will still check out Namco's version of the game.
