Developer IllFonic jointly announced with Crytek today that its futuristic arena-style fragfest Nexuiz will hit PSN and Xbox Live Arcade later this Winter as the first digital offering to leverage CryEngine 3.

A first-person shooter originally released on PC and Mac in 2005, IllFonic is promising “competitive game play built specifically for consoles” for this rendition of Nexuiz. Set across a series of battle arenas on the fictional home planets of Kavussari, Forsellian and the desolate planet of Atavirta, players can fuel their thirst for galactic warfare in classic multiplayer modes like Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. Also featured are stat-tracking leaderboards that integrate with social networking services.

IllFonic plans to expand the shooter beyond its original inception with post-launch downloadable content that encompasses “new games modes, models, and maps.” More screens can be viewed past the break.
