Square Enix today pinned a firm release date on Front Mission Evolved, announcing that the “riveting” third-person shooter will hit North American store shelves on September 14.

Set over 150 years in the future, Front Mission Evolve marks a franchise-first into the free-roam shooter space. Commanding a giant bipedal tank known as a “wanzer,” players assume the role of Dylan Ramsey. Yes, it’s quite a change of pace for a franchise predominately associated with the real-time strategy genre.

In addition to a compelling single-player experience laden with blowing up mechs to smithereens, Front Mission Evolve offers up a varying amount of multiplayer modes, four to be exact. Players can pit their tricked out wanzer against friends and foes across the globe in solo one-on-one matches and team battles.

Penciled in for a September 14 debut, Front Mission Evolve is due out on PS3, Xbox 360, and in stereoscopic 3D on Windows PC.
