Report: EA Made Bid for Bungie IP, May Partner Over Future Projects

Activision wasn’t the only company involved in a bidding war over Bungie’s next IP. A report stemming from UK site CVG indicates that EA attempted to nab publishing rights to the project but dealings fell through as the two parties were unable to strike upon agreeable terms, according to EA Partners boss David DeMartini:
We had extensive conversations with [Bungie], but could never really figure out a deal that made sense for both of us. It just didn’t come to fruition.
Of course, that’s not to discount the possibility of future dealings with other third-parties. Activision’s ten-year contract applies to a singular IP only, which leaves Bungie with options, especially if they decide to expand and branch out — possibly to work on another new IP in addition to the current one. That means future projects may be fair game. Granted, Bungie is undergoing a major transitioning period right now. We expect them to stick solely by Activision’s side for the foreseeable future, but five years from now, who knows. The future looks bright.
