Treyarch Embraces Dedicated Servers In Call of Duty: Black Ops

Rejoice: after all the hoopla surrounding Infinity Ward and its decision to remove dedicated server support in the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 in favor of an in-house matchmaking network dubbed IWNet, developer Treyarch is taking a different route with Call of Duty: Black Ops. Mark Lamia says the Activision-owned studio sees “no reason” not to include them, speaking in an interview with PC Zone magazine:

Dedicated servers are excellent. I don’t see any reason not to see them unless… well, I just don’t see any reason not to.

A sound choice, sir. It’s clear that a vast majority of the PC community wants dedicated servers – why not give them what they want? Glad to see Treyarch recognize this. So, what’s the verdict, will the inclusion of dedicated server support impact your purchasing plans?

Hmm...after the fiasco regarding being charged $18 for the Stimulus pack, I'd be very wary of whatever promises come out of a studio that is owned by Activision. Dedicated servers would be a plus point though that would perhaps influence my decision to buy CoD:BO

Too bad it's Treyarch. Don't care much about their MW outings.

treyarchs games arnt bad....ok maybe cod 3 was but WAW was a huge improvement. and I'm pretty excited about this game although I'm going to rent it before I buy it to make sure its ok

MenaceInc says:

I didn't play CoD3 since it was a console exclusive but IIRC they did the United Offensive expansion for the first CoD game which I enjoyed more so than CoD. CoD:WaW though wasn't a game I enjoyed if I'm honest. Much prefered MW1.

No such thing as rental for PC's either so it'll be a more difficult choice for me D:
