Valve Deploys New Counter-Strike Source Beta, Adds Achievements, Updated Scoreboard

Well, this is a surprise. Valve today rolled out a beta update to its ultra-popular online shooter Counter-Strike Source. Chock full of additions, it includes several noteworthy features aimed to enhance functionality and usability. In addition to a redesigned scoreboard complete with lifetime and match player statistics, highlights consist of 144 new achievements and avatar icons added throughout the UI.

* 144 achievements added
* New lifetime player stats and summary screens
* New match player stats and summary screens
* New end of round display with MVP and interesting fact about a player
* Updated scoreboard with new icons, visual style, MVP stars, and avatar pictures
* New cinematic death camera
* New domination and revenge system
*Added avatar icons to voice chat, scoreboard, and end of round display
* Incorporated many source engine updates

Open to anyone with a Steam account worldwide, Valve says the beta will run for a limited time. Once testing has wrapped up, it will be released as a free update to all Counter-Strike Source owners.
