Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 Requires Online Pass To Play

Publisher EA is taking its “Project Ten Dollar” initiative to new heights, requiring those that purchase Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 enter in a game-specific, one-time use registration code that the company has aptly dubbed “Online Pass.” All brand-new copies of Tiger 11 on Xbox 360 and PS3 will include the code. This is EA’s latest retort in its ongoing fight to curb secondhand market sales.

Those who pick up Tiger 11 used will still have the opportunity to play online, however, by purchasing a separate Online Pass. Priced at $10, it ensures EA still gets a cut from those buying used. EA has employed similar tactics with several of its previously released titles, requiring that players insert an access code to download free add-on content in Mass Effect 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

The main difference here is that EA is locking away what is arguably a core aspect of the game to those that either buy new or obtain an Online Pass.

EA says it will implement the Online Pass system in all titles that fall under the EA Sports Simulation Games banner going forward.
