LittleBigPlanet 2 Deets Surface, Redefines Creation Aspect

As we reported back in March, LittleBigPlanet 2 is on the way. It’s coming sooner than you think, too. The June issue of GameInformer touts a full feature story on the follow-up to Media Molecule’s creation platformer, which is poised to take advantage of the upcoming PlayStation Move motion controller.

Details from the aforementioned issue have already surfaced courtesy of a NeoGAF user, revealing that LBP 2 will profoundly expand on the do-it-yourself creation concept introduced in the first title. Media Molecule is taking creative freedom to new heights, giving players tools to develop games that encompass genres outside the platforming realm. Virtually any genre is fair game, from racing to RPG and even real-time strategy. Apparently, a member of the development team has already managed to create a Command and Conquer clone.

Sounds amazing, right? It gets better. The provided creation tools will also allow for complete customization of controls, let players import custom sound bits, tweak AI routines, and create cutscenes. Naturally, this opens up the possibility of creating short films. In regards to the AI, a template is provided in the form of an appropriately-named Sackbot, which players can modify to their liking.

We’re pumped. Bring on E3.
