E3 2007: Microsoft Aims To Hit “Mass Market Price”

by Mike Bendel on July 13, 2007 @ 3:41 pm

Speaking with 1UP, corporate VP at Microsoft Game Studios Shane Kim revealed that the company is moving toward a mass-market price point with its Xbox 360 console.

What is the mass-market price point? Historically, Kim says it’s $199 – when you are looking at a PlayStation 2-like install base. So, looks like Microsoft is aiming to hit $199 with the Xbox 360 core model. When it will happen? We don’t know – but Kim does say the holidays are “very important for Xbox 360 to win.”

Xbox 360 price drop in time for the holidays? Sounds likely.

That'd be a good move- then penny-pinchers really would have two choices. Plus 200 sounds ALOT more affordable than 300, IMO. Just, if you threw out those two prices, it'd be a BIG difference. Bigger than 100, seemingly. Doesn't make sense? I blather alot, oh well.
