GeoHot Brings Back OtherOS On PS3 Firmware 3.21

by Mike Bendel on April 7, 2010 @ 11:23 am

Meet 3.21 OO — true to his word, famed hacker George “GeoHot” Hotz has delivered on his promise to devise a “custom firmware” based on the PS3 3.21 update that retains access to OtherOS. See video proof above. Jokingly, he adds “I would have added something showing off the new features of 3.21, but oh wait, there aren’t any.”

According to Hotz himself, the feat can be pulled off without having to crack open your PS3 — that means no need for hardware modification, folks. Of course, running firmware 3.15 or prior is a prerequisite for taking advantage of this. Additionally, the same workaround may bring OtherOS support to Slim units, however this belief has yet to be tested.

if he brings CFW to the ps3, I'm SO buying one

I don't think he will. Someone else might though. It is interesting to see how greedy conglomerates are such experts at setting everything up for their own failure. Self-fulfilling prophecies anyone?

Hellcat says:

It's not "CFW" as you understand it from the PSP, it's a 3.21 with OtherOS still enabled - which is awesome already! And I LOVE that.

I hope he succeeds in his tries to enable OtherOS on the Slim that way, that would be *SO* awesome.

PAinKiLLa says:

I hope he makes one that can be installed by those who done the 3.21 downgrade.
