Sony finally confirmed the existence of a PSP Slim model at today’s E3 press conference. While the new model may look the same, its 19% slimmer and 33% lighter. Additionally, it will sport a longer lasting battery, faster UMD drive, and feature the ability to use a cable to connect to a HDTV to display content.

The new model will be sold in two new entertainment packs. The first is the Daxter PSP Entertainment Pack, available in September, which includes the PSP Ice Silver model. Second is the Star Wars Battlefront PSP Entertainment Pack, launching in October, which includes a Ceramic White PSP. Both packs will retail for $199.99.

In addition to the entertainment packs, Sony plans to roll out a new version of the PSP Core Pack, sporting the newly designed PSP Slim. It will retail for an MSRP of $169.99, and launch in September alongside the Daxter PSP Entertainment Pack.

Totally looks badass.

Rumor has it that it has 8 gig internal memory.. It hasn't been confirmed.

I'm not gonna buy it unless I brick my current PSP somehow.. >_>

Roe says:

Nice man. But whats the chances of it having less than fw 3.50...

x3sphere says:

No 8 GB internal memory, it will have a faster UMD drive though.

Junit says:

I'd laugh if it came with firmware 1.5 but I'm kinda wanting the star wars one :)

GPUX says:

wonder what type of motherboard will be used in these slim versions?

GPUX says:

how is it going to scale its image to an HDTV??

x3sphere says:

It has a video output port. UMD videos are actually 720x480 so they would look fine on an HDTV.

canadajames says:

Any chance there will be a way to make your psp1 output to tv?

GPUX says:

there are a lot of accessories that allow you to do that, but most them require opening the PSP.

maeirsvs says:

it looks good and all but, i wont get it if it comes out on a higher version fw and there's no down grader for it..ehehe..

x3sphere says:

Here's a video of the new PSP in action.

It has Firmware 3.60.

shadowthor says:

ouch, firmware 3.60

If you think about it...

The potential for this is astronomical.. With the HDTV out part alone..

Wherever you go.. you can plug your PSP into anyone's HDTV and have your own library of Movies.. And you can play all of your Music through a Surround Sound Home Entertainment System.. Browse the Web.. and play God of War in a "kick@ss" High Definition big screen TV.

It's basically caring around a PS2, PS2 (Grapics-wise), Movie Player, and a AMP/MP3 player which you can set up in a few seconds at pretty much anyone's home.. Since in a few years.. any Non-HDTV *Will* be obsolete.

This *IS* basically a Portable System and a Console System that you can fit into your pocket.

I'm so stoked about it... I'm reserving mine as soon as possible.

The only downside is.. I gotta wait for someone to replace Dark Alex, and keep pumping out more CFW's each month or so.

Only time will tell.
