Next Wii To Innovate, Reggie Calls Competing Motion Control Solutions Embarrassing

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime is downplaying all the frenzy surrounding Natal and PlayStation Move, saying that if put in a similar catch-up scenario, Nintendo would be “embarrassed” to approach motion control in the manner that Microsoft and Sony have. Speaking to Kotaku, Fils-Aime reiterated that the key focus at Nintendo is innovation, not following in the footsteps of others.

I think a hallmark of Nintendo is that we are constantly trying to innovate. I think we would have been embarrassed to do what our competitors are currently doing.

Nintendo’s Wii successor is primed to go beyond simply offering HD. Going forward, Fils-Aime says the company’s aspiration is “to provide a whole new compelling experience in our next generation.” Outspoken as ever, Fils-Aime isn’t afraid to set expectations high either, noting this will entail bringing a product to market that makes consumers and the industry as a whole say “Wow, I didn’t see that coming.”

How about actually releasing some decent games titles on the Wii, it has so much potential in this machine, but not so far........so why not, Nintendo.

To be fair, it's had nearly 4 years to impress and it's built on hardware that's almost a decade old. I'd rather just play games on my PC.
