Microsoft In Search Of Motherboard Design Engineer For 360 Hardware

by Mike Bendel on March 8, 2010 @ 10:33 pm

According to a recently posted Microsoft job listing, the company is in search of a Motherboard Design Engineer. While this tidbit alone is far from noteworthy, the listing specifically mentions that the applicant will be working with Xbox 360 hardware. Interesting.

Responsibilities for this position include “specifying, designing (schematic capture, PCB layout, BOM, cost analysis), implementing and verifying the mother-board and other various sub-system boards that make up the XBOX 360 product line.”

Consider our interest piqued. While we could insert a snide joke about the whole RROD fiasco at Microsoft’s expense here, let’s take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Perhaps this call for talent means a possible slimmed-down, eco-friendly revision of 360 hardware is seriously being considered over at Redmond. With the impending launch of Natal, Microsoft has an opportune chance to reboot the 360 brand as a whole. Time will tell if they take advantage of it.
