Warner Bros. Buys Arkham Dev Rocksteady

Warner Bros. today announced that it has acquired a majority stake Batman: Arkham Asylum developer Rocksteady, giving it a firm grip over operations at the London-based studio.

Hardly shocking, taking the colossal success of Arkham into account. Since its August 2009 release across multiple formats, the title has attracted Game of the Year awards from several publications.

Above all, the acquisition reinforces Warner’s intent to expand its presence in the game business. Warner called the move a “great strategic fit” and is working closely with Rocksteady to create more titles based on wholly owned franchises. With a sequel already on the cards, it’s a safe bet we’ll see another Batman before anything else, though.
