Ape Escape: Saru Saru Demo

by Mike Bendel on June 29, 2007 @ 11:29 am

Sony has released a downloadable demo of its new Ape Escape game for the PSP, Ape Escape: Saru Saru. Be warned, the demo is in Japanese, but thankfully not much reading is required.

The gameplay in Ape Escape: Saru Saru is a bit different than what we have experienced in previous Ape Escape titles. There are various monkeys on the island, and players can use a special helmet to jump onto a monkeys head and literally take control of him. Once in control of a monkey, the game reverts back to its platforming roots.

Install instructions:

1. Download the demo.
2. Save the file to X:/PSP/GAME/NPJG90004 (X being your memory stick drive)

Ya know, I've been wondering something. How hard would it be for Sony to include a bug of sorts that kills (or maybe just cripples) your PSP if it detects CFW?

I love Ape Escape so um..I'm going to try this demo out anyway.

x3sphere says:

impossible since PSP games run in user mode. They can't modify anything on the flash.

Anyways, even if they could, Sony still wouldn't do it. What if the code messed up and affected people with non-OE firmwares.

Good point, and I can't seem to play this game. It just black screens me, although the PSP Logo is barely visible, with a funny looking S..odd.

x3sphere says:

oh, go to recovery mode -> configuration

there's an option there to change the GAME folder kernel setting. You need to change it to 3.40 for any new demos to play.

Switch it back to 1.5 when you want to run homebrew from the GAME folder.
