Tretton Says PS3 Shortages Are “Conceivable”

by Mike Bendel on September 23, 2009 @ 6:25 pm

The recent PS3 price cut has brought about a tremendous increase in demand, so much so that Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton believes that shortages are within the realm of conceivability. First it wasn’t selling enough and now stock is apparently running dry, go figure:

If things continue at this pace, it is conceivable that there will be product shortages.

Something seems a bit fishy here. Considering Sony has had months to ramp up production in order to prepare for the price cut, we can only guess that if a shortage develops, it will be short lived.

I would feel inclined to say that any shortages would be produced by Sony trying to create some sort of hype...if people know that something is in limited quantities, they tend to try and buy it ASAP...it creates a buzz...although after this amount of time seems odd...
