Tomb Raider Episodic Content Confirmed

Turns out the ESRB was right on the money, again! Eidos has confirmed that it plans to release Tomb Raider Anniversary on Xbox 360 as a series of downloadable episodes.

Lara’s latest will be broken up amongst four episodes, each being available for purchase via the Xbox Live Marketplace, provided that you own a copy of Tomb Raider Legends. The first two episodes will hit this coming September, while the following two episodes will be released later this year.

In total, all four episodes will set you back 2400 Microsoft Points. For those not, er… lucky enough to own a copy of Legends, Eidos is also planning to release a full retail version of the episodic content by the end of this year.

I’m all for the downloadable content, but what’s the deal with having to own Legends in order to download it? Obviously Eidos wants people to buy Legends, but c’mon…

Anyway, I think this is a pretty good idea, they should do this stuff with more games that are fan favorites- using the original gamedisc to make downloadable episodes off of- It lets them contain only gameplay in the download, getting much more bang for your buck.
