Xbox 360 Elite Drops To $299 August 30

Once again Microsoft is looking to get a head start on all the price cut action and steal their competitor’s thunder, or at least a portion of it. With Sony rumored to debut the PS3 Slim at a reduced price point this coming September in Europe, word has emerged from a Meijer flyer that Microsoft will bring the price of its Xbox 360 Elite model down to $299 on August 30, a $100 drop.
Assuming Arstechnica’s original report pans out, this move will signal the end of the Pro model and the Elite will gradually become the standard configuration, next to the value-priced Arcade variant. In that sense, this isn’t a true price cut but it does mean consumers will be getting more bang for their buck.
