Gates: Project Natal Tech Originally Platform Independent, Coming To PC Later

Although Project Natal is largely being touted as an Xbox 360 accessory, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates says the company has internal development teams actively experimenting with deploying the full-body motion-sensing technology in the PC space, for purposes other than games on Windows-powered PCs.
Speaking in a recent interview with CNet, Gates explained that the Natal tech was originally a joint project between the Xbox and Windows teams.
Both the Xbox guys and the Windows guys latched onto that and now even since they latched onto it the idea of how it can be used in the office is getting much more concrete, and is pretty exciting.
Giving insight into his expectations of the tech, Gates further mentioned that Natal could be used to further empower media consumption on the Windows platform, allowing for interactive elements in “meetings, collaboration, and communication.” Although no estimated timeframe was given, Gates expects the tech to reach office environments once it becomes cheaper, meaning it may be a few years before these envisions come to fruition in the PC space.
It’s safe to assume that once Natal does hit Windows, we might start seeing PC games take advantage of it.
