Developer Valve has rolled out an update to the Source SDK, bringing with it .vmf source files for several of the official maps found in Team Fortress 2. In simpleton terms, that means you can now alter or edit existing maps.

Included in the update are source files for Lumberyard, Ravine, Badlands, Dustbowl, Granary, Gravelpit, 2Fort, Badwater, Goldrush, and Hydro. Great news for those who were previously turned off by the complexity of constructing a map from scratch, as well as experienced editing types looking for inspiration or solutions to performance and networking related issues on an implementation level.

Valve is promising to open up more model and map sources in the future, so for those with a passion for customization, be on the lookout.
