News broke at today’s Microsoft E3 press conference that Valve is working on a follow-up to its successful co-op driven shooter Left 4 Dead. While only a brief trailer was shown, developer Valve has now issued details on the title.
Aptly titled Left 4 Dead 2, the sequel promises to expand upon the original, adding melee combat with items such as a chainsaw, frying pan, axe, and baseball bat. Additionally, the AI director is being given a procedural revamp. Based on various conditions, the puppet-like director will be able to “change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players’ performance.”
New maps and items, along with a fresh cast of survivors and boss zombies are also set to appear in the sequel, further displaying Valve’s commitment to delivering a larger co-op experience.
Left 4 Dead 2 is slated for a November 17 release on Xbox 360 and PC. We expect to have a hands-on report of the title during E3 later this week.
