Virtual Console Hits 100

The big 100! It’s hard to believe, but Nintendo’s retro-flavored Virtual Console service now has 100 gaming classics to choose from. Nintendo had to up the ante this week, bringing us four games instead of the usual three, which include:
Milon’s Secret Castle (NES, 500 Wii Points): The princess is in captivity! You, as hero Milon, must vanquish the evil warload and rescue the beautiful princess. A daunting task indeed, but perhaps what is even more daunting is that there are no save points or even passwords to continue your game.
ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron (Sega Genesis, 800 Wii Points): Released last Friday over in Europe, this game is a worthy successor to Genesis classic ToeJam & Earl. It took the series in a new direction with insane side-scrolling 2D gameplay, rather the top down view of old. You play as the quirky ToeJam and his side-kick Earl who must capture the Earthlings in jars, and ship them back to Earth in rocket ships at the end of each level.
Dead Moon (TurboGrafx16, 600 Wii Points): Natsume’s side scrolling action shooter for the TG16, originally released back in 1991. It follows the very same gameplay premise as other shoot ‘em ups. However, Dead Moon falls short on originality. Bland levels, mediocre soundtrack. Ugh. Go get Blazing Lazers if you haven’t already.
Zelda II – The Adventure of Link (NES, 500 Wii Points): The big 100. A title of mixed opinions and controversy. Zelda II brought additional RPG elements and side-scrolling gameplay into the mix. Some hated it, while others liked it. Personally, I liked the game. Not as good as the original Zelda, but it was a worthy sequel.
