Activision made it official today, Blur is the latest project in development over at Bizarre Creations, the studio responsible for flagship Xbox racer Project Gotham Racing.

Set to “revolutionize” the racing genre, Blur features tracks stationed across real-world locations such as L.A. and San Francisco, complete with ample room for up to 20 cars. And that’s where the realism begins to blur. Gameplay can be described as Wipeout-esque, ridden with speed boosting power-ups and energy-fueled projectiles that can be unleashed on opponents, thereby slowing them down.

“We did our homework and saw a huge opportunity to move beyond traditional racers and create a game completely focused on making racing ‘fun’ again,” said Martyn Chudley, Creative Director, Bizarre Creations. “Blur delivers a new style of racing experience for all gamers, regardless of their experience, skill or genre preferences. Everything the player does, both in their cars and with their cars, is a dramatic adrenaline rush; it’s a real blast!”

Placing an emphasis on social networking through community-run groups, the title also promises a deep multiplayer component with competitive and team-based modes, which can be played with up to 20 online or on a single console via four player split-screen.

Blur is slated to hit Xbox 360 and PS3 this fall.
