EA just released a new trailer for Mass Effect 2 in what it calls the “Prelude to E3.” The clip gives fans a closer look at the highly-anticipated follow-up, highlighting gameplay mechanics as well as the overall theme, providing insight into the sense of story direction.
The landscape of Mass Effect 2 looks to take on a darker theme and tone, an environmental condition evident from simply looking at the choice of color palette. Additionally, the combat system has been given a complete overhaul, engineered for high-impact situations. Players can target specific parts of an enemy and detach unsuspecting limbs with a carefully aimed shot.
Project director Casey Hudson also talks of increased responsiveness in gunfights, further emphasizing that character movements are now more fluid and less stiff. On the whole a major effort is being put behind revamping and refining combat. A sound decision, seeing as this was one area many felt the original could use improvement in.
Developer BioWare plans to show off a playable demonstration of Mass Effect 2 to press at this year’s E3. We’re looking forward to gathering impressions while there.
