by Mike Bendel on May 25, 2007 @ 10:34 am

DickyDick, homebrew developer and author of Pimpstreamer, has now released PeeJay MIDP 0.2, a program that allows users to run Java J2ME MIDlets on their PSP.

Generally, MIDlets are games and applications programmed in Java that are made to run on mobile phones. Now using PeeJay MIDP, you can currently run games like Snake and various demo packages from Sun’s J2ME Devkit on your PSP.

This has excellent potential to become a solution for those few and far between cellphone-only releases that the big names do in Japan.

I'd love to see this developed more!

Yea, that'd definitely be pretty cool.

MenaceInc says:

actually it wouldnt be....the biggest that i can think of that people would wanna play would be Before Crisis:FF7 but it can only be played on NTT DoCoMo FOMA i-mode phone...and it was based on a subscription kind of thing....so yea...i can't think of any games in J2ME that i wanna play on my PSP really... :\

Krelian says:

Well I know Japan had a release of NiGHTs on cellphone but I don't know if it was on any crazy proprietary phone...

Darkchild says:

they did!?! :O

anyways...there are cellphones that support 3D besides the one you metioned MenaceInc... Is that the only mobile phone that suports it because of the format it's in or is it because of the hardware capacities?

MenaceInc says:

hehe,i know that, after all i used to have an ngage. :P

i think its a combination of the hardware and the software...but also its subscription based...would be like playing a BS SNES game now....possible but very difficult.
